(Y/n)'s P.O.V

The walk was quiet as we made our way to Driftveil City, the trading capital of Unova. We were around halfway over the drawbridge before we decided to take a five-minute break. I was looking over the vast blue sea beneath us when Herdier nudged my leg. 'Hey, (Y/n)? Can I ask ya a question?' Herdier barked. I sat on the floor and answered him.
"Sure, what is it?"
'Ya're afraid of heights, but ya climbed up that cliff where ya met Ruffles. Weren't you scared then?' I think back to Nacrene City, and the cliffside I climbed up.
"I suppose I did climb up then..." I hummed in thought. 'No, I'm fine with heights, as long as my feet are on solid ground.' I patted my lab as a signal for Herdier to rest his head on it. "I guess it's flying that bothers me. I don't mind –well, actually I do mind– falling, but it's more like if it's my fault, I can deal with it. Flying though... That's a different story. You can be completely prepared for something to go wrong, and still wind up hurt. That's my fear."
'So ya're not afraid of heights, but ya just say that 'cos it's easier?' I nodded.
'Hey, Comrade, why were you trying to get over your fear? Isn't it easier just to live with it?' Rufflet perched himself on my shoulder.
"While it is easier to live with it, I want to better myself. I'd also love to see the whole of Unova one day, and some places are only accessible by flying!" I thought of the mixed wilderness of Unova, adoring the thought of seeing it all at once.
'That's good to know!' Rufflet hovered in front of my face. 'Comrade, I promise to grow strong enough to take you to those places!' I smiled at his words.
"Thanks buddy, I appreciate it!"

'So, what you're telling me is that if I were to –by chance– trap you in an illusion where you're flying-' I glared at the snarky dark-type.
"Another word from your mouth, and you'll find yourself back in your ball for the foreseeable future." I took it out just to ensure she understood the seriousness of my threat. Though the smirk told me that she couldn't care less.
'Got it.' She brushed off my threat with a wave of the paw, before stretching out. 'Mmh... I'm so tired... Why are we even walking this far?'
"There's another gym in the city at the end of this bridge."
'And here I thought taking down Team Plasma was your main goal.' Zoroark laid out besides me and yawned.
"Zoroark, it is." I look down, trying to soften my words. "But to take down an organization we need more than just the four of us, and at this state, they'd wipe the floor with us. We're nowhere near being ready." I raise my head again, my gaze met with the firey eyes of my partners.
'Ya think we need more training?'
"It wouldn't hurt..." I recall our last fight, and how close we were to losing. "That last gym battle was bittersweet."
'That damned bug!' Zoroark spat out, her paws clenching into fists, clearly she's not a fan of Galvantula.
'That Galvantula was a bit sturdier than a lot other pokemon we've faced before...' Rufflet agreed.
"That's why I'm suggesting we train; it's only going to get harder from here."
'Fair enough...'
"Speaking of training: how about we train your stamina?" Everyone gave a simple nod of approval. "Let's start by jogging to Driftveil! Come on!" And with that, we continued our way to Driftveil City.

Taking out my phone, I put earphones in and start music up. Then I started a fast jog, and with the music, my mind wandered a bit. 'Driftveil... We're four badges strong, but nowhere near as strong as we need to be. As much as I love my team, I do need more pokemon, we'll get nowhere with just the four of us. And as much as I hate to admit this, I'm useless without them.' I slowed to a walk, pacing myself for the final stretch. 'If I remember right, the gym ahead is a Ground-type, Rufflet will need to be careful.' I smiled once the end of the bridge was in sight, my walk kicking into a full-on sprint.

"I've still got it!" I laugh lightly, jogging on the spot once my feet met with grass. When my pokemon finally caught up to me, they collapsed to the ground, panting like madmen. Zoroark scrabbled to her feet and began barking at me.
'The hell are you trying to do to us!?' She growled in my face, voicing her displeasure with my choice of training.
'I second that, not to disrespect ya.' Herdier agreed with a whine.
"Like I said, it's to train your stamina!"
'I don't see what's wrong with our Comrades idea, it was a refreshing flight!' Rufflet puffed out his chest, filled with pride.
'I say we have bird meat for food tonight.' Zoroarks maw twisted into a murderous grin, causing Rufflet to hide in my hair.
"Zoroark..." She looked at me. "Pokemon are friends not fo-"
'They are food! Where do you think fish come from?' I was quiet for a moment, thoughts of battered Magikarp and chips filling my mind. 'What I wouldn't give to have some right now...' I shook my head, returning my thoughts to the matter at hand.
"Domesticated pokemon are friends, not food." Zoroark facepalmed and sighed, shaking her head slightly. "Anyway! Let's go get something to eat, I have a sudden craving for a Kantonian dish."
