The desert, an ocean of sand, was our new challenge. The wind harshly blew sand around, creating a sandstorm. I wipe away the sweat that formed on my forehead. "Come on guys, back into your Balls." I take a quick drink of some water and march forward. I've never been fond of the warmth, so being in a desert is a worst-case scenario. I was planning on going through with Hilbert but Cheren wanted to battle him and I knew if I had even a minute to think I'd refuse to go through. 'I vaguely remember this place...' I involuntarily shiver, even in this scorching heat. 'One of the scariest moments in my life!'

I was a lot younger and I was still traveling with Father, though I had wandered off. He was in Castelia City doing something and he had told me to stay in the Poke Center. Did I listen? No, I left almost immediately, I was trying to follow him, but I had lost him. I wandered around the city, completely lost and found the desert. Being very young I thought the sand was gold and ventured further to find the softest 'gold'. 'Man, I was stupid.' I had managed to get into a ruin or something along those lines and well... There was quicksand. I don't remember much after I fell into the quicksand but what I do remember was being in the Poke Center with Fathers head laying on my bed, a small glass bottle of sand and a fresh cut on my arm. I had gotten a lecture after he'd woken up, but I understood I did something bad and apologised, strangely enough he did to and he said 'Thank you'. I still don't know why...

Somehow, during my trip down memory lane, I had walked into some very familiar ruins. "I'm older and a little bit smarter... I've got nothing to worry about..." I whisper meekly to myself. The ruins are empty besides a few Yamask and Sandile. I shivered nervously and decided to bolt to the entrance. Well that was the plan. The sand underneath me started to tumble down, causing me to slip, I looked at what I was sitting in. Just my luck... "Quicksand!" I tried desperately to get out of the pit, but no matter what I did I always sank quicker. I whisper some prayers just before the sand takes me under.

I didn't realise I wasn't dead until I hit the floor and a pained gasp left my mouth. I had landed awkwardly on my ankle, probably spraining it, in the middle of some ruins. "I'm screwed." I say aloud. "Now what? Am I going to die the painful death of starvation? Dehydration?" I felt a light weight on my shoulder.
'Oh, woe is me!' I heard Zorua bark dramatically. 'Get your act together!' She angrily yipped in my ear.
"How'd you get out of your ball?" Zorua bounces gracefully off my shoulder and shrugged when she landed.
'Come on! Hurry up!' Zorua growled impatiently.
"Oh, how I'd love to follow your commands, but it seems that I've messed up my ankle!" I sarcastically snap back. Zorua, being the sadistic pokemon she is, jumps onto my bad ankle. A pained scream leaves my lips and I push Zorua off. "That really frigging hurt!" I shout at her. I was expecting her to laugh and backhandedly apologise, but she didn't. No, she backed off and whispered something with wide eyes. "What wro-"

Something hit me and I was flung to a wall, my body hit it with a sickening crack! I look around with hazy eyes, probably from hitting my head against the wall. I could see a large yellow blur with 4 black appendages floating in front of a small blue and black blur. I could barely hear a thing besides the loud ringing in my ears, but I could just make out Zorua and a deep voice talking; about what I don't know. I'm suddenly hit with a wave of tiredness and I find my vision quickly darkening. 'I'm going to have one hell of a headache later...'

Zorua's P.O.V

I glowered at the ghost-type in front of me. It was a Cofagrigus. I barked angrily the territorial sarcophagus after noticing that my human has gone limp. 'The hell was that for!?' I growled out, I got an ominous laugh in response. The Cofagrigus got onto its hand and hastily made its way to (Y/n). It opened up slightly and it used one of its hands to pick up the unconscious (Y/n), it then placed her inside itself. It laughed again, the ominous noise echoed around the sand filled room. I just stood there. '...' I couldn't do anything. It disappeared deeper into the ruins and left me frozen in place. Only after I had gotten hit by a wandering Yamask did I move, and I went straight after that Cofagrigus.

'Where are you?' I rushed through the dark and foreboding crypt, the occasional Yamask would try and stop me but I'd just Dark Pulse them out of my way. I eventually found the end of this underground labyrinth. The walls were lined with sarcophagi with a similar look to Cofagrigus, minus the black limbs coming from it. Speaking of which, Cofagrigus was standing in the centre of the room, facing the entrance with its back to some kind of podium. I stayed in the shadows, I needed to end this quickly. I stealthily make my way behind the kidnapping pokemon and prepared a Dark Pulse.

As soon as I let it go, I jump backwards and I'm glad that I did. One of Cofagrigus' hands slammed down on the ground, pulverising the stone blocks in the floor into dust. I kept bouncing around the place, avoiding the bone-crushing slams while attempting to whittle it down a bit. I threw all I had at it, but nothing seemed to faze it. I was growing tired, but I refused to back down, so I decided to change tactics. 'I really hope this works!' I sprint to the other side of the circular room and stop dead in my tracks, then I created an illusion. However, my exhaustion was my downfall, the Cofagrigus saw right through my illusions and slammed me into a nearby wall. 'Ouch... I can't give up yet!' I weakly stand up, only to have my front legs buckle under my weight. 'I refuse to back down!' Even as my body screamed at me to stop, the burning pain almost made me fall, almost, I got down low and charged into a sprint.

A light blue glow radiated from my form and I felt a funny stretching sensation all over. The distance that I was travelling seemed to shorten and I reached Cofagrigus much quicker than I had imagined, I lunged at the sarcophagus in front of me and relentlessly dug my claws into it. My blood boiled with rage and I almost forgot that my human was still inside of Cofagrigus, and with new found strength and energy I pulled open the lid of the resistant pokemon. It eventually gave up and its lid flew open, revealing a humanoid wrapped in dirty beige linen cloth. I tore through the frail fabric and found a feinted human, my human to be specific.
'Human! Sleep time is over! Get up.' I impatiently barked at her and when I was ignored, I began to worry. I rummaged through her, now surprisingly small, bag to find the dogs ball. A click followed by a red glow signalled that I hit a ball. The dog that I was looking for crawled out the bag and looked around. 'Finally! What's wrong with our human?'

He growled at me in response. 'Who are ya? Huh?' The dog growled.
'You are one dense dog, aren't you?!' I growl back, 'It's me, Zorua!' Herdier flinched at that.
'Miss Zorua?' I nodded, he hadn't been in the ball that long. 'Forgive me, but ya look very different, ya're a lot bigger now!'
'Am I?' I glance at myself and I do notice I am a bit taller, my fur had grown longer, and my back legs are a lot stronger. '... Nevermind that! What do we do? Our human has feinted!' No sooner I had said that, a pained groan was heard from my human.

'My head!' I groan aloud at the pounding in my head. I looked around, my vision a little blurry but was getting better. I saw a large purple and black pokemon in front of me, it had a similar look to Zorua but larger. "Zorua? Is that you?" The large pokemon nodded. "It looks like you evolved!" I tried to get up, but I fall right back down, dizziness keeping me grounded. A click echoed around the room and my bag moved, revealing little Rufflet. "What happened?" An eerie laughed stopped anyone from answering, then the equally eerie voice called out.
'Survivor of our trials, take this stone,' A blackened hand lowered in front of my face, and I gently took the gleaming white stone from it, the hand disappeared once I did. 'Now, leave these ruins we call our home.' A dark mist surrounded me and my pokemon and not even a moment later we were above ground, the sky was clear, and the sandstorm had ceased.

"(Y/n)?" Hilbert called out, "Oh, there you ar-" He rushed up to me before cutting himself off. "The hell happened to you?"
"I don't know. I go down into some ruins, hit a wall, then wake up to get a stone and now I'm here." Hilbert gingerly looked around, only to look back a me with a disappointed look on his face.
"What ruin?" I look around and I notice something, well the lack of something, the ruin had vanished! "Oh, cool!" Hilberts excited voice brought me out of my confused trance. "A shiny Zoroark!" He threw a pokeball at the newly evolved Zoroark, she slashed it out of the air and sniggered. "Whaa!?" He cried.
"Hill, that's my Zoroark, Zorua evolved." He looked like he'd been slapped, but Hilbert quickly shook it off and grabbed my arm.
"Well done! Now let's get outta this desert!"

Okay! Next Ch. will have the man you've all been waiting for! And some more back story for (Y/n)... But who cares? (I do...)  I hope you've enjoyed!
