Conflicting Souls

chapter 3: DIZZY

I pick up my phone. I was at work. "Hello. Is this Maria Shahid?"someone asked.

"Speaking, how can I help you?"I asked with sudden palpitations.

"I'm not sure you remember me but it's Adam. Adam, from Faraah hospital. Well......I was the nurse that assisted Mrs. Levi."he said with a shaky voice.

Oh!Mr Brown eyes.

Well this can't be good.

"Is she OK? Did something happen!"I was freaking out. "TELL ME!!"

"Calm down, nothing happened."he responded. I could tell he was a little  annoyed.

Quite frankly I didn't care. I mean why call me if nothing was wrong?

"Well then why are you calling me ?"I asked quite rudely.

He sighed. "I just wanted to....to...apologies. I was out of line for speaking to you that way. I only realized a few days ago that she wasn't your mother."

Well well well. What do we have here. Mr.hot shot is sorry.

"Is that how you treat all your patients relatives?....If so I guess your doing one hell  of a great job there." I questioned sarcastically.

"What! Are you serious! I knew I shouldn't have apologized. Anyway have a great day WOMAN!"he shouted and hanged up.

Oh boy.

Why was I feeling guilty all of a sudden.

He deserved it.
 
'C'mon we both know he was at least trying to apologies and you still insulted him. Guys in the medical profession have a really hard time.' That inner voice in my head corrected me.

Argh. Why did I have to be right sometimes?

What do I do?....I was about to pick up when Adam walked into the kitchen with his gym bag.

"I packed a few necessities. I'll be off now. Thank you for being understanding."he said while hugging me.

"It's alright. I'm your awesome wife,"I said trying to hide my worry.

"Yes, you are Ria."he whispered to my ear.

I don't know why but I immediately felt bile rise up to my mouth.

This is not good.

I pushed Adam aside and went straight for the toilet sink.

I felt like I had puked my intestines out!

I felt dizzy and was about to collapse when Adam held me. "Maria!" Is all I heard before it all went blank.

I opened my eyes and I see Adam. He was so tense. He sat on the bed next to me.

"What happened? "I asked.

He was silent for a few seconds. Staring at me with a concerned look on his face.

"First, I need to know how you are feeling?"

"Well, I'm not sure. My head hurts and I feel like I've been hit by a truck a couple of times,"I giggle a little.

He smiled.

"I'm glad your OK, "he said as he kissed my forehead.

His phone buzzed and he was suddenly tensed again.

I turn to sneak a peek at the caller ID.

YASMEEN.

"Why is YASMEEN calling you?"

Adam is speechless for some weird reason.

"Well, I called her to stay with you since I have to leave."he said.

 His words seemed too rehearsed. But maybe I was too weak to think straight.

"Oh okay. Just pick up."

"Yes,.......she's here and she knows you're coming. No. There's no worries. She just needs rest."he said and cut the call.

"She'll be here in a minute."

I close my eyes for a second.

Suddenly, I hear whispers in the kitchen.

"I can't believe you're leaving me with her.........no!" Yasmeen was saying.

"I'm gonna make it up to you babe,"

What was going on!!!!!!!
