"Clarissa," Derek said as I stood next to him. "I know you're there. I love you, do you understand!" I reached toward him but I knew I couldn't touch him.
"Talking to the dead is mean," Hades snapped trying to add salt to Derek's wounds.
"Shut up!" I screamed at him in anger. "Even if I can't talk to him doesn't mean I don't like to hear him."
"So what?" Hades laughed as Derek stood laying my body down on gently.
"Give me the ability to see her," Derek demanded.
"No, the living aren't supposed to interact with the dead. You are lucky I haven't killed you yet," Hades growled before disappearing in a puff of smoke taking me with him. "Clarissa you see now why you will do as I say?"
"Just cause I'm stuck to you doesn't mean I have to obey your every wish!" I snapped when I noticed Sam hiding in the shadows. He looked right at me, could Sam see me?
"Get me water," Hades snapped as my legs carried me toward the water pitcher. I struggled to keep from grabbing the water. Sweat began to form on my forehead. "You can't resist forever."
"Watch me, I have nothing better to do," I spit harshly. "If anyone is stronger than you it's me!"
"Fine stay there then," Hades said vanishing. He left me standing by the water.
"Clarissa," Sam said approaching me.
"You can see me?" I muttered as he laughed.
"Yes I can," Sam said softly.
"You should leave while you can," I said facing him.
"You know you are the only person I have seen deny Hades," Sam said ignoring my suggestion.
"That's surprising. Not one person tried to defy Hades," I murmured as Sam's eyes widened briefly.
"Your entire body just became solid for a minute," he said softly.
"How is that possible?" I gasped as Sam grabbed my hand. He held my hand in his with fascination in his eyes.
"I have no idea how you are doing this. Even a Demigod can't become solid in the afterlife," Sam said as I thought of Derek. I needed to see him before this wears off. I rushed through the halls stopping when my eyes found his blue gaze. He froze as I smiled at him. In a moment I launched myself into his arms.
"Clarissa," Derek gasped holding me tightly against his body.
"I had to see you. I don't know how but I'm solid right now!" I said as Derek caressed my cheek.
"I love you," Derek said as my hand slipped from his.
"Hate to break this up but Hades is behind you," Sam said as Derek faced his father.
"Clarissa how did you manage to leave the water?" Hades asked as I clung to Derek's hand.
"I think the real question is why is she solid?" Sam added as Hades looked down to find me latched onto his son.
"That's not possible!" Hades roared aiming a gun at me. I felt no fear as he pulled the trigger. The bullet ripped through me painlessly and no blood came out. He couldn't hurt the dead.
"Tell that to the bullet hole," I snapped as he glared at me.
"Do you realize the severity of what you just did?!" Hades screamed as Derek put himself between us. "You have just upset the entire balance of power."
"Dad stop," Derek said firmly. I gasped as I felt a zap. Static in the underworld was unlikely which means Zeus must be here.
"Hate to make you even angrier but I think Zeus is here," I whispered as Hades stiffened.
"Keep her hidden," Hades said before leaving me with Derek.
"Follow me, both of you" Derek said leading us into the library.
"What are we doing here?" I asked as Derek grabbed a book off the shelf.
"Looking for something," Derek said as he flipped through the book rapidly stopping when his eyes landed on a sketch. My lips parted slightly, the sketch looked like me. I grabbed the book from him reading the short paragraph below the picture.
Fallon James is said to be the first mortal who fell in love with an immortal. Her existence left no lasting impact on the world but cautions against falling for a God. Little is known about which immortal but she did have children.
"Derek, my last name is James," I muttered as Sam rushed forward to look at the page. "Does this mean that I was a Demigod without knowing?"
"Very minimally. You had a fraction of the immortal blood as say Sam," Derek said as I looked at him.
"I disagree, I think her immortal blood was lying dormant waiting to wake. That's why everyone thought you were human and in a lot of ways you still are," Sam said as I sighed. "I think Clarissa is the strongest Demigod by far. She's from the first line of Demigods."
"That still doesn't answer how I'm able to cheat death," I said when I heard Zeus shouting with Hades. Derek put his finger to his lips pleading with me to stay quiet. I crept toward the door to listen in.
"Hades if she's here I need you to tell me!" Zeus growled.
"She isn't here!" Hades yelled harshly.
"I figured out who she is and that could topple the very foundation of our system. She is a descendant of Fallon," Zeus said firmly. Hades fell silent as I backed away from the door. In an instant Hades threw the door open. Both Zeus and Hades seemed to be in agreement on how to proceed.
"Now that you mention Fallon I see the family resemblance," Hades said as he stalked toward me. Derek stayed still for a moment before inching toward the door with Sam. I took another step back as Hades laughed. "Come dear Clarissa!" My legs froze but I refused to move toward Hades.
"See I warned you," Zeus said watching as I resisted the command. "She's a threat to us all." I gasped as a power exploded inside me filling the dark underworld with a blinding light. I scrambled from the room while Zeus and Hades struggled to locate me. I took Derek and Sam's hands before Derek teleported us to Earth. Though I was dead Zeus and Hades feared me like no other before. I had united Hades and Zeus in fear.
