"I wouldn't bet on it," I watched Hades's eyes filled with anger. I couldn't help the small smile tugging at my lips.
"Why won't you die? Even an immortal can't live through what you have!" Hades growled lashing out with a fire whip. My blade blocked the flames before he yanked the sword from my hands. I hurled a ball of electricity at Hades which he dodged with ease.
"Why won't you let your son be happy?" I demanded harshly. "Allowing him happiness seems like a simple solution to your problems." I glanced at the sword a few feet behind Hades on the ground. I walked slowly inching closer to the sword. I gasped as his fire whip reached for me again. I hand no choice but to block the whip with my right arm. I winced as the fire wound up my right forearm. Hades's wicked smile spread across his face before he yanked me forward. I stumbled forward barely staying on my feet. He wrapped his arm around my waist as the flames vanished. I struggled against him as his grip tightened.
"Let her go," Derek said through gritted teeth showing how much pain he was in.
"Prove your strength to me and I might," Hades said coolly. My heart called out to Derek but I couldn't help him. My body radiated will unused energy before the electricity raced across my skin. Hades growled before tossing me into the cave wall. I let out a yelp as my head bounced off the wall. I hit the ground hard as Hades glared at me. "You shouldn't have done that!" I touched just below my hair line finding a cut. I got to my feet seconds before Hades pushed me against the wall.
"Why because you are afraid I'll hurt you?" I mocked using his fear against him. Fallon had told me he was afraid of Zeus's power.
"No because I won't hold back," he said without emotion. I held on my hand electricity sparking toward the sword. The sword trembled on the ground as my power called for it. I felt the sword fly into my hand as I kicked Hades. He released me as I swung my sword at him. Hades ducked my sword missing him by centimeters. Hades tossed a fireball at me. I spun to the right as the fire smashed against the wall. My sword crackled with electricity before I dragged the blade across this left arm.
"Clarissa," Derek yelled. I turned to find a three headed dog coming toward me. The creature snarled at me baring its teeth.
"Cerberus will make quick work of this," Hades laughed as I put up a wall of electricity between me and Hades. I wasn't making the same mistake twice. The dog stalked toward me slowly as I clung to my sword. The dog leapt at me with its jaws open. I slid underneath the dog dragging my sword across its belly. I got to my feet facing the dog quickly. I hardly injured the dog. My heart pounded in my chest as the dog growled. The dog charged at me. I sidestepped the blade cutting deeply into Cerberus's side. I winced as its jaw clamped around my left leg. I brought my sword down slicing through Cerberus's heart. The dog froze before going limp. I faced toward Hades dropping the wall only to find him gone. I sprinted toward Derek dropping beside him.
"Derek," I said softly as he winced.
"While you are alive you won't be free," Hades voice echoed him my head. "It's inevitable that you and Derek will be torn apart again. Can prey and predator ever last?"
"Clarissa," Derek whispered.
"Can you stand?" I asked as he nodded. I helped him to his feet supporting his weight. I held my sword in my free hand before we walked slowly toward the gate. I froze as a sweet melody filled the room. I felt Derek go ridged before he pushed me away.
"Clarissa, run," he ordered as I faced him.
"Derek I'm not leaving you here," I said firmly.
"Clarissa you have to. If you don't leave I will kill you," Derek pleaded. "I couldn't live with myself if I hurt you. Please." I rushed forward pressing my lips to his as tears streaked my cheeks.
"I love you Derek," with that I turned fleeing from the Underworld. I reached the gate slipping through. Once out of the Underworld I teleported back to Olympus. I dropped the sword onto the ground leaning against the wall. Hades was toying with me. He found pleasure to give me Derek then rip him away. I wiped the tears as I picked the sword back up.
"Clarissa," Aphrodite gasped approaching me. "What happened?"
"I found Derek and fought Hades. I got as far as the gate before the Sirens called to Derek. He told me I had to leave him behind," I said my voice filling with anger. "Hades enjoys making me suffer. To give Derek and then take him from me."
"Clarissa," Zeus stood a few feet from me. I faced him and could see he was still angry with me but I also saw the sympathy in his gaze.
"I can't help Derek if Hades keeps using Sirens," I muttered. Zeus stiffened at the mention of the Sirens.
"Clarissa. I don't think Hades is going to stop. He isn't just afraid he wants control. He is going to start a war and nothing I do can change that," Zeus said after a minute. "Aphrodite tell Ares's to prepare for war."
"Yes sir," she rushed off leaving Zeus and me alone.
"Are you ready to fight?" He asked me as I held up my sword.
"Yes," I said firmly.
"Even if Derek is the one you are fighting?" Zeus said as I looked down. He knew the answer to the question and yet he asked. "You have to be ready because I promise you will have to fight Derek. Hades doesn't play fair."
