I paced my room thinking of everything that has happened since the entire war began. I hated war but this war only solidified my feelings for Derek. Slowly I realized I didn't care the troubles our relationship brought to me, I loved Derek and I wouldn't trade him for anything. I could feel Derek and I knew the pain I felt he also felt. I longed to just be near him and the distance infuriated me. I was pulled from my thoughts as Ares entered my room.
"I need to discuss something with you," he said firmly. I nodded following him out of my room. Instead of taking me to the arena he brought me into a dark room on the edge of the palace.
"What's wrong?" I asked as he stood a few feet from me.
"I have an idea but you are going to hate it. The way to rescue Derek is to draw Hades out," Ares said softly.
"How?" I whispered my heart racing. I would do anything for Derek.
"You have to go to Earth, alone. Hades will come for you like he always does. This will give me the chance to go into the Underworld and get Derek," Ares said as I stiffened. I saw many ways for this plan to backfire. Ares could get taken by the Sirens, I could die but worst of all Derek could get hurt in the process.
"I don't think that's a good idea. Zeus seems to have a plan and I think we should follow his lead," I said firmly. I had tried to save Derek before and every time things got worse.
"This is the problem with humans, they are to afraid to do anything close to a fight," Ares snapped harshly. I crossed my arms holding back my power.
"I'm not scared of a fight, I am thinking through all the possible outcomes unlike yourself!" I growled turning on my heels. I stormed out of the dark room making my way back to my room. Halfway to my room I felt an arm grab onto me. I found myself face to face with Ares. "Let go!"
"I asked you as a curtesy," he said firmly before dragging me toward his chariot. I opened my mouth to scream only for him to push a dagger into my side. "I won't hesitate to end your meaningless life if you don't come quietly."
"Please," I pleaded but he just pulled me roughly onto the chariot heading straight toward Earth. Tears filled my gaze as he shoved me out of the chariot aiming a gun at me.
"Hades I got you a gift of the human variety," Ares yelled and then I felt him. Hades was coming but so was Derek. Before my eyes stood the man I loved but in his hand he held Hades's sword. Hades planned to have Derek kill me.
"Derek," I whispered masking my fear and my pain. "I love you and this is not your fault. I will never leave you even if you kill me." I looked at him with glistening eyes as he strode forward. Lightning struck a few yards away and I knew Zeus had joined us.
"Now the war is over," Ares smiled as the betrayal stung. He never wanted to help me but to end the war by giving my life to Hades.
"He won't even think of you once I wipe you from the face of the Earth," Hades laughed.
"Hades let her go," Zeus ordered as Derek reached his free hand up to caress my cheek. He felt like Derek but inside I knew he wasn't. My Derek would never hurt me.
"Clarissa is free to go," Hades smirked knowing I wouldn't leave Derek. I gasped as a sharp pain pulsed through my body. I looked down to see Derek's hand inches from my stomach gripping the sword now imbedded in my abdomen. His eyes shifted from vacant to pain filled. Tears and regret swirled in his blue gaze.
"I... love... you," I choked out as my fingers brushed his face gently. My legs gave way as my blood flowed from the wound. Derek caught me in his arms holding me off the ground. Zeus fell silent just watching as Derek held me close.
"What have I done. Clarissa please don't leave me," he sobbed guilt lacing his words.
"I always win brother, don't you see that," Hades smirked taunting Hades. I felt the power radiate off me blasting Hades back. He crumbled to the asphalt groaning in pain.
"Give her to me," Zeus said quickly as Derek rushed me to Zeus. I struggled to breathe my lungs screaming for air. Zeus sent small amounts of electricity into my body and I felt my power growing as my body slowly started to mend itself. Hades jumped to his feet his fire reaching toward us. I put up a shield around the three of us blocking Hades's powers. Zeus held me in his arms as Derek watched me get stronger.
"Derek," I said as Zeus put me on my feet. "I love you." I ran toward him my lips crashing against his and for a moment we could forget the battle revolving around us. Derek's hands rested on my waist as I draped my arms around his neck. I heard the silky song flowing around us as Derek stiffened in my arms. Zeus yanked me away from Derek as Derek drew Hades's sword once more. "Derek fight this. You can beat the Sirens!"
"He can't only a hand full of immortals can overcome the Sirens and he is not one," Zeus said as tears filled my gaze. Zeus tried to pull me away but I ripped my hand out of his grasp.
"I'm not leaving him," I snapped keeping my eyes on Derek. He had to find his way back to me. Derek had the strength to fight the Sirens even if no one else saw that. "Derek please. You have so much to fight for. You have me and Zeus. You can beat them Derek."
