"I'm coming for you," Derek's voice called to me. I sprinted down the street fear crippling my every movement. I stumbled onto the asphalt the rocks cutting my palm. I turned to see Derek with a sword. His smile made my blood run cold.
"Derek!" I cried out as he laughed.
"I never loved you. In fact I wanted you dead," he spat as he stalked toward me. Tears filled my icy gaze as I slid away from him.
"Derek, please," I begged for him to stop but he kept coming.
"Your pleas won't save you this time Clarissa," he said as he thrust the sword down.
I jolted awake covered in sweat. I breathed heavily as I jumped out of bed. I opened the closet pulling on light blue jeans and a bright blue silk tank top on. I fixed my hair before stepping out of the room. I absently played with the ring on my finger as I wandered around Olympus.
"Zeus," I heard Hades's voice coming from down the hallway. I ducked into a corner listening to the conversation. "I took care of our problem. Clarissa can't upset the balance of power anymore."
"Get out!" Zeus growled but instead of complying Hades only laughed.
"I did you a favor brother. She would be the end to us all just like your little girlfriend would have been," Hades spat. I could feel Zeus's anger at Hades cruel words coming off in waves. I felt my powers flaring with my rage but I took a breath. Hades didn't know I lived and I didn't want him to. The energy inside my body calmed as I continued to listen.
"Thank you for being so considerate and killing the woman I loved!" Zeus snapped sarcastically. I could feel him, Derek. Derek was on Olympus and I had one thought. Did he remember what happened?
"Zeus, I'm sorry. I wish I could have protected her," Derek said his voice trembling. I had to bite my lip to stop from calling for him. "I loved her."
"You stabbed her!" Zeus countered. "Derek go look at her room and think about what you did. The room she was going to live in before you killed her." Zeus wanted Derek to find me. I rushed back to my room quickly knowing I needed to see Derek. I had barely reached the bed before the door swung open. Derek froze at the sight of me. Derek rushed forward pulling me tightly against him as tears spilled down my face.
"Der," I sobbed against his shirt before he pulled away to look me over. He lifted the edge of my shirt only to find the scar he caused. His eyes clouded with guilt as I caressed his cheek.
"I did that," he said his voice barely a whisper.
"No Derek," I said firmly. "Your father did that and you had no control!"
"I should have fought harder," he muttered as I pressed my lips to his silencing his argument. A warmth filled me followed by an electric heat. Derek held me closer as the kiss deepened waking my entire body. I draped my arms around his neck allowing his kiss to consume me. For the first time since this all started we could be together without fear of Zeus or Hades coming after us. Zeus cared about me and Hades thought I died.
"I love you Derek," I murmured against his lips. "You are my forever!"
"Just as you are mine," he said as we pulled apart. "The only problem is how I ditch my dad without him figuring out why."
"We will figure this out, together," I told him firmly.
"I should head back out there okay," Derek said reluctantly. I knew he was right but I didn't want him to leave my side. I watched as he slipped from the room. My heart shattered the moment he left and I felt broken. Derek was my other half. I sat on the bed trying to think of a way to be with him but the only way Hades would allow it would be to kill Zeus. I couldn't hurt the man who saved me over and over again. I felt my sword materialize in my hand as I stood. I could beat Hades, he would die if I actually tried to kill him.
"Clarissa," I heard Zeus say. I looked up to find him watching me with concern.
"If I kill Hades I can be with Derek," I whispered when Zeus stepped aside.
"Go but if you do this I can't protect you from him," Zeus said harshly. I paused before I let my powers carry me to Earth. I needed to find a solution and that solution wouldn't be on Olympus. I walked quickly down the street pondering what to do. Pain flooded my system as I stumbled. The ring glowed red and I knew Derek was in pain. Hades kept inflicting pain on Derek. I stood fighting through the pain before I found myself standing at the gates to the Underworld. I stepped through the gate without hesitation. I knew I was walking into a battle but I couldn't leave Derek. His screams filled the Underworld making my blood boil. Hades didn't care about his own son. I raced toward the screams stopping just outside the cave Derek lay in.
"Stop fighting my authority and the pain will end. Clarissa is dead and I'm all you have so stop resisting!" Hades growled as I gripped the sword tightly in my right hand. I stepped into the room confidently staring at Hades. His eyes filled with shock then anger. I had cheated death a second time and that scared him more than even Zeus could.
I glared at him before the words slipped past my lips. "I wouldn't bet on it!"
