Izel

I limped a little bit through school because last night was another episode of my stepdad and his beatings. He got mad because I told August where we lived and he doesn't want me speaking to him anymore, but I didn't want to hurt August feelings and make it seem like I didn't want to talk to him. I really do. I've already grown comfortable around him.

"Hey, girl are you okay?" Celeste came up to me with a worried face.

"I'm fine. I just slept on my leg wrong." I laughed nervously.

"Oh. Well, look." She handed me a flier. "There's this party going on tomorrow night and you should really come. You'll get a chance to meet some people, besides me and August." She laughed. "Speaking of the devil, Hey August!" She smiled and waved at him as he passed by.

He waved back at her and gave me a mean glare.

"Y'all get into an argument or something?" She frowned.

"No. Don't worry about it, I'll see you later." I walked away from her so I could catch up with August.

"What's wrong? Why'd you look at me like that?"

"You should know why." He mugged me.

I looked down and walked behind him. I walked into class after him and I heard the same boy who always messes with me, laughing at me.

"Is there something funny about her?" August looked at him.

"Is this your girl? You damn sure stick up for her a lot." He laughed. "Ugly ass bitch." he knocked my books out my hand.

"I stick up for her because she ain't do shit ta yo feenin ass." August stood up and handed me my books.

"August sit down." I blocked him from killing the boy.

"You better listen to your little bitch." The boy looked up at August and grinned.

Before I could even blink, I saw August throwing blow after blow at the boys face.

I was pushed to the ground and I watched them go at it before security came and broke it up and took August out of class.

"You gon' regret that shit Kyle" August yelled while walking out the class.

I looked at the boy and saw his face all bloody and he was barely moving.

After the whole thing in first period, I haven't seen August for the rest of the day.

I walked into the cafeteria and saw Celeste sitting down, bopping her head to some music.

"Hey, have you seen-"

"Huh?" She snatched her earbuds out.

"Have you seen August?"

"He should have gotten suspended after half killing Kyle." She snickered. "Why didn't you just call him?"

"Because I don't know if he's mad at me or not."

"Check the gym." She put her earbuds back in.

I grabbed my bag and headed toward the gym hall and saw no one down here. I walked into the gym and saw him.

He was talking to his coach it seemed like and his fist were still balled up and his face was clenched.

"Is this the girl?" His coach pointed to me.
