Nyla
I tried to swallow but my mouth felt like cotton. I blinked enough times to clear my vision and took in my surroundings.
I was laying on a king sized bed adorned in a burgundy bed sheet. I turned to the left to gaze out of the window, but all I could see from this angle was what looked like white sand. There was a glass of water on the night stand next to the bed and I practically caught whiplash from trying to get to it so quickly.
Unfortunately, it didn't work out due to the fact that I was tethered to the headboard with a zip tie.
"Fuck!"
The door to the room opened and I looked up immediately, shrinking back when I realized it was Castillo.
"You're up."
There was no response, but my eyes didn't stray from him as he walked around the bed. "You want this, huh?"
He held up the glass of water. When I still didn't respond, he sighed and came over to me, holding it to my lips. I drank a little, and then a lot when I realized how dehydrated I was.
"Where are we?" I asked in a raspy voice.
He grinned, holding his arms out, "A friend's house, not too far from the border. We should be there by tonight." He checked his watch.
I nodded and looked to the window. I felt the bed sink next to me, "See? Everything worked out princesa. You'll have everything you ever wanted down in Mexico, I'll make sure of it." He grabbed my chin in his hand and turned my head towards him, "You're not still upset about yesterday are you?"
I blinked rapidly, and suddenly it all came rushing back to me. Malakai was dead. Gone forever, and it was all my fault. I would never kiss him again, never feel his touch, never hear his laugh, never have another argument. My child would never know their father.
I guess I was taking too long to respond, because all of a sudden Castillo's lips were on mine.
I didn't move them at first, just sat still. Finally I responded by allowing his tongue to enter my mouth. I intertwined my tongue with his, leaning forward. Castillo groaned and loosened the grip he had on my shoulders. I took the opportunity to bite down hard on his tongue and he sprung up quickly, anger etched on his face. Blood started to run down the corner of his mouth.
Before I could blink again, his hand came across my face in a forceful manner. I didn't even realize I was crying until I felt the sting of his slap.
"You fucking bitch! I pull your hoodrat ass out of the ghetto and how do you repay me?!" He yelled, "With nothing but constant disrespect!"
Castillo whipped out a pocket knife and I flinched just before he cut the zip tie off of my wrists. I screamed as he yanked me up by my unkempt hair. "Castillo, stop!"
I thrashed around, before realizing I had to buck up. I got a good one to his face, causing him to stumble back a bit. I made a dash for the door, throwing it open and blindly running down the hallway.
I didn't think about the possibility of getting caught, just dashed down the stairs without looking back. I heard Castillo cursing from behind me when I reached the bottom of the stairs. I immediately found the front door and practically threw myself through the entrance.
I didn't make it far before I was tackled from the right.
~*~*~*~*~
Before I could open my mouth to scream, a gloved hand clamped around my mouth. I looked to the side to discover a man dressed in all black was bleeding out, leaned up against the house. I heard Castillo quickly burst outside, I was quickly dragged under the stairs.
"Nyla!" I heard him call out.
"Don't say anything." The voice said in my ear. I didn't recognize the voice right away, but I did as I was told.
A minute later, we heard a car start up and drive away. I finally turned around and looked up into the face of Julian.
I damn there exploded with joy, "Julian?! How the fu-"
"Shh." He warned, "We don't have that much time before he realize you ain't get far."
"But I don't get it, how did you know where to find me?"
"Malakai. He-"
I widened my eyes, "Malakai's alive?! B-But he-"
"Ny." He said firmly, "Listen to me, you gotta go with Castillo for now."
"What? No, what the fuck are you talking about?! Where's Malakai, why isn't he here? He doesn't wanna see me?" My voice cracked on the last question.
"Ny, calm down real quick, ok? Of course he does, it just ain't a good idea for him to be out in the open right now. Look, we gotta plan but in order for it to work, you needa ask questions later and go with it for now. We comin' back for you."
He looked down at my belly, "And best believe I'm comin' back for my god child."
I could feel myself about to cry again and blinked back tears, "Ok."
Julian hugged me softly and kissed my temple, "Be smart." I watched him disappear into the trees that surrounded the house and took a deep breath. Whatever his plan was, I trusted him one hundred percent.
I walked back from under the stairs and slowly sat on the end of the steps leading up to the house. Ten minutes later, the car pulled back up and a furious Castillo got out. Before he could say anything I spoke, "I'm sorry."
He seemed taken aback by this and narrowed his eyes at me, "What?"
"I shouldn't have hurt you and tried to run away." I had to pause in order to keep going, "Malakai's dead, and either way he couldn't offer me anything you have." I got up and stood in front of him, gingerly wiping at the dried blood in the corner of his mouth.
I thought he would've snatched me up by now, but I watched as his stance softened, "You mean it princesa?"
I swallowed, "Yeah. I wanna go to Mexico with you."
Wherever Malakai was, I hoped he knew what he was doing.
So this is just a quick little update. You guys, its insane how much this book has grown since I first started writing it a year ago and it makes me wanna cry. Love all my readers!
