I groaned as I heard banging. It wouldn't stop and I wiped my eyes to check the time.
1:08 am
I put a pillow over my head but the noise wouldn't stop. I threw it and slid out of bed.
"Whoever's bangin' on this door bout to get they shit rocked." I mumbled to myself as I felt around the dark. I found the door and swung it open hastily.
"What?!"
Malakai was standing there with a bruised and bloody nose. I took in his attire and the defeated look on his face and opened the door wider.
"Malakai what the hell happened?"
He didn't say anything, just unexpectedly wrapped his arms around me tightly and put his face in the crook of my neck. His grip was tight as hell and I struggled to lead him to the couch.
He sat down and I stood there for a moment.
"I'll be right back." I went to grab a wash cloth.
When I came back Malakai was staring at the wall opposite him. I knelt on my knees in front of him and started to wipe the dry blood from his nose which was turning purple. That's when I noticed his knuckles were also scabbed and bloodied.
I carefully wiped his hands down too. "Are you gonna tell me what happened?" I said trying to sound more calm than I actually was. It wasn't like him to hurt anybody.
He wordlessly pulled a small piece of paper out of his pocket and handed it to me.
I read it several times over before I fully understood.
"Your mom is..."
When he spoke his voice sounded hoarse, "He knew this whole time where she was but he never said shit. Wouldn't let her see us." He mumbled.
"Why are you bleeding?"
"I fucked him up."
"What? You hit your dad? Where?"
"At the church." He snapped. "We went to her funeral today."
I quickly covered my mouth to hold back a flurry of giggles.
He looked at me incredulously, "That's funny to you?"
"No! You fucked your daddy up in a church, that shit is unheard of man!" I finally busted out laughing.
Malakai tried to hide his smile but failed and started to chuckle as well.
"Bruh you so fuckin' childish." He murmured.
I grabbed his hand once I finished laughing and ran his knuckles across my lips. "I thought you were never gonna talk to me again, you scared me."
He looked down at my lips and squeezed my hand, "My bad."
We sat like that for a few minutes before I spoke again, "I went to see my momma. They're putting her in rehab but she's still in the hospital."
