Nyla
I walked into first period early to discover that Malakai was already there talking And to Ms. walker.
"I just came to get the stuff I missed yesterday." He mumbled to her.
"Oh? You're not staying Malakai?" She said handing him papers.
He shook his head. "I transferred to a different chemistry class." My heart sped up.
"Well I'm sorry to hear that. You're one of the brightest students I've had in a while, though I don't appreciate the little stunt you pulled yesterday." She replied.
He smiled sheepishly. "Thanks Ms. Walker." He walked passed me without so much as a glance and out of the classroom. I told myself he'd talk to me later and went to take a seat in the back.
"Nyla, are you actually on time? Or do my eyes deceive me." She said turning to me.
I rolled my eyes, "I had nothing better to do unfortunately." The bell rang and people started coming in, chatting loudly. I kept thinking about Malakai throughout the whole class period, wondering why he switched classes. I tried texting him but he didn't answer. The rest of the day all the way to lunch time he ignored my texts and I started to wonder if I had done something wrong. When the lunch bell rang I saw him walking with two other guys and a girl, to a car. I walked over to him, stopping once I realized his arm was around some Spanish chick. I could feel my anger rising and tried to control it. It spilled over anyway and I pushed pass other people to make my way over.
"Malakai!" I snapped. He turned around with an aggravated look on his face and so did the rest of the people he was with. "So now you just fucking gonna ignore me?!"
I prayed to god that the hurt in my voice didn't show through. Kelly I think his name was nudged Malakai, "Yo I told you she seemed like the clingy type."
I ignored him."well?" I said to Malakai.
He sighed, looking down. "Nyla please."
"Please what?! What about homecoming?" My voice cracked.
"I'm taking Maria instead." He mumbled.
I felt like I was going to hit someone, most likely him. People were staring and whispering. "I can't hear you Malakai! Speak the fuck up!"
The girl under his arm rolled her eyes. "He's not taking you anymore, you're interrupting our lunch time." She said in a thick Spanish accent.
I nodded my head. "I fucking hate you." I said lowly.
He finally looked me in the face, eyes pleading. "Nyla-"
I shook my head and looked his bitch up and down. "How my pussy taste hoe?" I spat. Instead of waiting for a reply I shoved people out my way and walked down the the block, pulling out a cigarette and lighting it absentmindedly . I shook my head and laughed as the tears spilled over and made streaks down my face. I couldn't say that I was surprised. That's what my ass gets for believing anyone could ever fuck with me on that level. I walked all the way to Marlowe's, sitting on a stool and waiting until she was done with a customer.
She must've noticed how pissed I was because she made me a strawberry shake, sliding it a across the counter. I pulled out money to pay her but she slid it back towards me, smiling sympathetically before going to help the next customer. I left Marlowe's an hour later, lighting what must've been my fifth cigarette. With shaky hands I speed dialed Castillo, tapping my foot impatiently.
"Nyla, he said softly, Qué pasa?"
I could hear the faint sounds of other men in the background. "I'm uh, on thirty-second street, if your busy I'll just-"
