Chapter 20

George ran until it was dark with his cousin. "Rest now. I'll wake you if we need to move." He nodded as he laid down and closed his eyes while Christian sat next to him and stayed awake and alert.

Jonathan sensed two dead bodies shortly after they were five minutes away from George and his cousin.

"She's been here. She's killed an old friend of mine and she's killed her father." "We better go faster." "Mike, calm down, please." "He may be a young man I'm protecting, but he is my friend." He shifted into his wolf form and closed his eyes. "Mike, take it easy. Don't strain yourself. You can't sense three people at once. That could be dangerous to you." 'I won't let her kill him.' Mike then told his brother that he would go alone to stop her, but Jonathan and Claire wouldn't let him. So, Claire jumped on Mike's back and he tried to shake her off of him. But once he managed to get her off of his back, she was thrown towards a tree head first which resulted in knocking her out.

Mike walked slowly towards her and took a deep breath as he began sensing how she was. "She'll be fine. She just doesn't want you to get hurt." 'I'll be fine.' "Go. Help them. Be careful." He nodded and ran to find his friends.

He found his two friends five minutes later to find George sleeping on the ground with a cover over him. Christian had it hidden in a tree nearby and covered his cousin over with it and continued to watch him. 'Christian.' "Mike. He's fine. It's best if he gets some sleep." He nodded and laid by George's side, and it wasn't long before George moved further towards his friend and protector and then became comfortable. Mike didn't mind as he ran for hours with his cousin. "You don't mind him doing that do you?" 'Of course not. You've both ran for hours and you need some rest as well. Don't worry. Any sign of Rosie and I'll wake you up.' Christian nodded and closed his eyes before falling into a deep sleep.

A couple of hours into Christian's sleep and he suddenly began to stir. Mike lifted his head up and sensed his friend having a dream. "No," he moaned in his sleep. 'You're safe Christian. You're just dreaming.' George then turned to lay on the left side of his body as Mike felt him move. Christian then woke up with a loud gasp. 'Are you okay?' "Yeah. It was just a bad dream." 'Why don't you go to the river and get a drink?' He nodded as he got up and left without waking his cousin.

Mike turned his head to his right to see that the cover he retrieved from the tree for George was off of his shoulder as he slightly shivered. So, he grabbed the cover with his teeth and pulled the cover back over his shoulder to keep him warm.

Meanwhile, Christian was at the lake and had a drink by the river. Once he had enough to drink, he was going to return to his friend and his cousin when he suddenly heard a twig snap. "Hello?" "Hi Christian." It was Claire. "What are you doing here?" "I can't let you look after our cousin on your own." "Mike is with him. Don't worry. He's quite safe." Suddenly, Mike had run past them without stopping with George on his back. 'She's close. Keep up with my scent.' They both followed them and kept up with him and watched their cousin with caution.

"Where can we go where it will be safe?" Claire asked as they still ran. "We'll just keep running. Right Mike?" He nodded as they focused on running. "Claire, he's never going to be safe as long as she's alive. She's either got to have something done about her gift or she'll have to be killed." "We'll do what we can." Mike told them that they would do their best and let George relax on his back until they were safe.

At sunrise, George began to wake up as he fell asleep on Mike's back a few minutes after they began running away from Rosie. He had his head on the right side of Mike's body with the cover over him. "Hi Mike," Claire greeted. He nodded and looked to his friend and saw that he was still sleeping. Claire then sat by her cousin's side. She watched him as she and Alison kept sensing for danger. Then her cousin began to wake up.
