PERSONAL IMAGINE

FORGETTING AND FORGIVING

Angrily I fold the blanket on our couch and then walk over to the kitchen table to carry the plates and the cooked food into the kitchen. Lately, Harry was barely home for dinner because of work and I was okay with that. I had my TV show so I found a way to enjoy the lonely hours until Harry came back. But today. How could he not come home early today!

This is our 1-year-anniversary and Harry simply did not come even though we talked about how I would cook dinner for us and he would come home early! This morning he didn't even say anything about our anniversary. He just cuddled with me for five minutes until he had to get up. No word, though. Harry just stood up, got dressed, gave me a kiss and left.

Harry freaking left without a word.

I walk into the bedroom and change into some shorts and shirt of Harry which I always wear for the night. It is still kind of early, 9 p.m., but I'm tired and I have no clue why I should stay up.

My eyes falling shut every few seconds so I put the book away and turn the little light on my nightstand of. Another lonely night because Harry is working, even though I would not be surprised if he is doing something else right now.

"Maddie? I'm home!" Harry calls through the flat and I hear him taking off his shoes and running through the rooms, "Maddie?"

"Leave your shoes in the corridor. I don't want the dirt everywhere that you carry inside." I yell back and turn around, facing the windows so when he walks into the bedroom he only sees my back.

"Oh, dinner looks delicious, baby." Harry says and still, he didn't come inside to maybe give me hello-kiss, no nothing. I hear the sound of the microwave and I want to laugh and cry. Laugh because it is so ridiculous that he hasn't lost a single word over our anniversary and cry because it's so sad that he completely forgot it.

"Tastes delicious, too," Harry says and his voice is closer so I peek over my shoulder and see Harry standing in the door frame, eating our 1-year-anniversary-dinner with a little smile on his lips.

"Are you already asleep?" Harry asks on his way back to the kitchen. I turn around, pulling the blanket higher, up to my chin. I see him taking off his trousers and his shirt, attempting to climb into bed but I stretch my legs out, giving him no space.

"Sleep on the couch." I say dry and annoyed. Harry chuckles and climbs onto the bed, though.

"Baby, I had a hard day."

"Oh you had?" I ask and sit up, pulling my legs away from him. Harry nods, pouting, "Well, go sleep on the couch."

"Is something wrong?" He asks confused.

"You don't have the feeling that you forgot anything?"

"Uh...well now I feel like I had to remember something."

"Did you like your food, hm?" I snap and Harry silently nods, "Awesome, I'm just gonna remember you that this was supposed to be our anniversary dinner but hey, it's okay. I had a great evening, all alone. That's how I wanted it to be, Harry."

 "Shit...that was today?"

"Yes, Harry! Yes, it was today. And you came home late again! You didn't even really say hello to me or goodbye this morning. Remember? You just stood up and left."

 "We cuddled..."

"Great, really freaking great. " I say sarcastically and chuckle.

"I'm sorry, baby. Hey, I was just busy and completely drowned in work. I'm sorry, Maddie, please." Harry says and crawls up to me.

"Wow, Harry, I feel so much better now because you are sorry! I enjoyed the lonely hours now much more because at least I know you are sorry. I'm completely okay with you forgetting me. Because you are sorry, Harry, it's okay that you ditched me!"

"Why are you making such a drama out of this?" He raises his voice.

"Because it's our relationship. Our. And not only mine. I'm not the only one who has to work on this, okay? You are a part of this, too and you have to work for this, too. I don't think to remember a date, the date we came together, is so hard to remember. I work, too, you know? Still I find some time for you because I love you, Harry!" I scream at him and my fists hew the mattress.

"I do know when we came together, Maddie," Harry says quieter and puts his hands on my wrists to keep my fists down, "September 19th 2013. I just...I didn't know it was today. I was somewhere else with my mind, Maddie, but I've gotten you a gift. I bought it when...well, I bought you a gift. I didn't forget you, baby." Harry says and I still stare at him as if I want him dead.

I know he is sorry and it's great that he got me a gift but it doesn't change the fact that he ditched me.

"You wanna see it? It's not wrapped up but it's in a jewel case, though." Harry says and leans over the edge to open a drawer of his nightstand. A black, long jewel case is revealed and he hands it to me. Sighing, I open it and see a silver necklace with the letter 'H' and a little heart as two separate pendants.

 "It looks beautiful."

"Do you want me to put it on for you?"

"Harry..." I say warningly but he doesn't listen and climbs behind me so I'm sitting between his long legs. He takes the necklace from me and puts it around my neck. The metal is cold against my skin, a huge contrast to Harry's warm fingers. His fingers trail over my shoulder blades and I can feel something dampish on my shoulder.

Harry leaves a few kisses on my right shoulder, his arms wrapping around me from behind so my back is pressed against his chest.

"Will you forgive me, baby?" Harry rests his chin on my shoulder, his curls tickling my ear and cheek.

"Yes, but I'm still kind of mad at you," I say and my hands play with his long fingers, "Don't do that ever again."

"All right, Maddie. Does it mean I can sleep here? Please, I want to snuggle with you." Harry begs and I turn my head a bit to look at him. He has his eyes closed, the stubbles on his chin are scratching the skin of my shoulder slightly.

"Yes." I say, smiling and Harry tightens his arms around me before he jumps around slightly, getting under the blanket and pats the space next to him. I lie down and he immediately wraps his arms and legs around my body. I laugh, wiggling a bit to still have enough space to move.

"You're an idiot, Harry." I mumble and I hear Harry making an agreeing noise, "I love you though."

"I love you, too, baby." Harry mumbles sleepy and presses a kiss to my forehead.
