PERSONAL IMAGINE
ENEMIES
"Congratulations!" Someone whose name I don't know congratulates Harry and me to our wedding. He is probably a friend of Harry since I have no clue who he is.
I turn around because a voice from behind me congratulates us but I stop dead in my tracks when I see who it is. It is Harry's ex and I'm a hundred percent sure that I did not invite her.
"Harry, look who we have here. Your lovely ex-girlfriend." I say sarcastically as I watch her. I emphasized the word 'ex' on purpose.
I know I don't have a reason to be mad at him for this since Harry married me and not her but still. She is his ex, so why is she here? She only causes trouble. She's been the reason why Harry and I had so many fights in the past until he finally agreed to tell her to stop bothering our relationship. And now here she is again, right in front of me, on Harry and my wedding day. How lovely.
Harry turns around and his eyebrows shoot up when his eyes take in the tall figure in front of us. "Hey, you came! How are you?" He says and gives her a hug.
I'm visibly confused but I don't say anything. With watchful eyes I observe the two of them, how they talk and laugh like there never happened anything between them. After five minutes I have seen enough and turn around to leave them alone. I hear Harry calling my name but I don't bother turning around.
Angrily, I walk away from my party but take a glass of champagne with me on my way to a lonely spot. This day was supposed to be filled with joy and love. This day was supposed to confront us with our future and not with problems from the past. And his ex has always been a huge problem between us.
Downing the glass which was filled to the brim with champagne, I hear someone coming closer, approaching me from behind. A warm finger travels down my bare spin until it reaches my dress.
"Why are you here all alone, Audrey?" Harry asks and I sigh.
"Why is she invited?"
"Who?"
"Don't play stupid, Harry. You know exactly who I mean," I say and Harry walks around to sit down beside me on the arid grass, "Your ex, why did you invite her?"
"She's always been a good friend of mine. I felt like I had to." Harry shrugs.
"Well, but she was your girlfriend as well," I tell him without looking at him once, "You know I don't like her and still you invite her to our wedding."
"I don't understand why it's bothering you so much. It is our wedding. Doesn't this already say that I want only you?" Harry asks and takes my hand in his. His warm thumb strokes over the back of my hand.
I exhale loudly, "Would you like it if I invited my ex-boyfriend to our wedding?"
"He wouldn't come because you two don't talk to each other anymore." Harry points out and smiles benignly.
"You know what I mean."
"No, I wouldn't like it." Harry admits quietly and comes a little bit closer so he is able to wrap his arm around my back. I lean my head against his shoulder and together we stare straight forward without exchanging a word.
"I'm sorry if I upset you on your big day." Harry mumbles and gives me a kiss on the head.
"Our day," I correct him and look up to him, his green eyes meet mine, "This is our day, not only mine."
"Our day." Harry repeats and lifts my hand up to admire the wedding ring on my finger. Gently, he places a kiss on my hand, "It's only the two of us. Forever. I promise."
