Boys think of girls like books. If the cover doesn't catch their eyes, they won't even bother to read what's inside.❞

Taking my annoying little sisters advice, I took a shower in preparation for the party– the one that I really don't want to go to.

Lauren and I are polar opposites; she puts social life and skin care above school and sport, whereas I tend to naturally excel in the classroom and on the sports field. She's constantly nagging me about making friends and meeting girls– something I've got sick of hearing. I wish I could get a girlfriend sometimes but with the fuckboy image that would be hard unless it's someone completely new.

The shower relaxes my tense muscles from a hard football practice, and I scrub my hair to remove all traces of dirt and mud. When I step out into the steamy bathroom, I notice with satisfaction the muscle I've gained in the past few weeks. Football training and weightlifting really has been paying off; making me fitter than I've ever been.

Slipping into a slightly informal black jeans and a navy button down I clear my throat and wipe the mirror, assessing my neck. Finally, those hickeys from a few days ago have gone, and yes– I did hookup with a girl.

These days, a hook up is nothing and comes free with no clingyness or strings attached. The girl simply thought I was hot, I thought she was okay, and we hooked up. Just because I have limited experience in the girlfriend department doesn't mean I don't know how to kiss.

I don't think I'm particularly looking for any type of girl, but if I was looking I would look for a girl that makes me laugh. I think that's all I want. All the other stuff, like taking care of people and being kind, comes naturally to me when I get close to people. When making new friends, I come across as cocky. In reality, I'm not really. I like a nice person just as much as anyone else.

A long time after I'm sitting in the lounge watching last nights footy game– completely lost in the players amazing abilities. They're all so confident in the way that they move around the field, which makes me yearn for this as a career. That would be a dream.

My phone suddenly lights up with a text from Lauren, and I gasp when I look at the time and remember about the party.

You coming? The text reads. I've saved you a seat.

Shit, got lost in the game. On my way!
I type out fast before racing out the door with my phone in hand.

When I arrive out of breath to the hall just off our property, the least thing I'm expecting is to be shown to my table by some stranger.

And, for the record, the brunette girl I'm seated next to must be the most beautiful girl I've ever seen.
