The best portion of your life will be the small, nameless moments you spend smiling with someone who matters to you.❞

"John." I breathe, trying to keep out the desire from my tone.

"Yes Amour?" He replies, as breathless as I am.

"I'd– I'd love to keep doing this but my Mum will come up here any second." I mumble, and his lips graze my neck.

"How has it been an hour?" He says lovingly, but with a slight growl.

"I don't know but you make me... lose track of time." I gasp again, body heating up at the thought.

"Ditto." He says, cracking a smile, and I pass him his shirt. He passes me mine, and I roll off the other side of my bed to fix myself up in the mirror.

Dragging a comb through my hair, I wince at how knotty it is. A few strokes later and I decide that it's enough; it's hopeless. I begin to braid one section as Johnny watches me, I know because I can see in the mirror. With a wipe, I remove all traces of makeup which leaves me fresh faced. Blushing deeply, I notice that the shirt I just put on reveals way too much tainted skin– I remove this too. He bites his lip, and I poke my tongue at him from the mirror. He grins bashfully as I throw my favourite yellow pullover over my head.

"I like you like this." He says huskily as I recline next to him on the bed again.

"Like what?" I ask, confused.

"Like this." He gestures to my comfortable attire. "I like this Mackenzie; the Mackenzie that couldn't care less if her socks and jersey don't match, the one that wears no makeup and her hair plaited or whatever. You're real and I like it."

"Thank yo–" I start to say, before a loud knock sounds on the door.

"Dinners ready!" I hear Mum yell.

Johnny gives me an amused look, and I dart towards the door, pulling it open.

"Lets go." I grin.

"Race you down!" He laughs, swinging past me.

I clamber to try and get past him, running down the steps two at a time. He beats me to it; of course, and slaps his hand on the banister.

"That was fun." He says easily.

"I'm not fit!" I protest, pretending like that was the cause of his win.

"Yes you are." He scoffs. "You're a dancer."

Continuing our playful argument, we pass the kitchen doorway and I take a seat at the table, Johnny on my left and Maddie on my right. Mum serves us a roast, which is a little burnt but still– I give her credit. She hasn't cooked in a while I guess.

I can see that my Dad loves Johnny; he just ticks all the boxes for him. One, he plays football and basketball which my dad loves, two, he attends a private school, and three? His parents have high and well paid jobs in the police force. Also, it helps a lot that he can sing because my Dad used to tutor kids in guitar before his job got too demanding.

Mum approves, and I can see it in her eyes and smile– all she cares about is that he's good looking and that he makes me happy. Vain I know, but she does have proper brains in her head I promise.

She tells us all about this charity gala thing which is happening tomorrow for the mall that she practically owns, and well a laugh when Dad groans, saying; "Does that mean I have to come to?"

The answer was yes, yes he did, and I felt bad for him in a way. I think he thought since tomorrows a Saturday he could get out of it, but apparently not.

My Dad was the one who extended the dessert invitation to Johnny, and my Mum was more than happy to agree.

So now, after ice cream we're reclined on the couch watching a movie. Maddie's next to Jack, I'm leaning on Johnny, and my parents are seated on their own couch.

I can easily say that life has taken a turn for the better– definitely.
