~Chapter 42~

*2 YEARS LATER*

It's been about two years since I moved and lots of things have changed. Mark graduated from NCT Dream and I finally debuted as a special member of NCT. However, some things still stayed the same. Johnny is still the stupid yet awesome brother he is, Jisung and Chenle are still the evil maknaes.

Today was the exact day Jaehyun and I got together so I prepared a small present for him. It was early in the morning and it was still dark out. As usual, I was the first to wake up. I rolled out of bed with a huge smile on my face as I remembered that it was our anniversary. I took a warm bath and skipped to the kitchen to make everyone breakfast. Over the years, I took a few cooking classes in my spare time and now, although I'm not the best, my cooking skills are not as bad as before.

I stood in front of the stove as I stared at the wall in front of me as I thought of what I should make for the boys. After thinking for what felt like an hour, I finally decided to make something simple - pancakes. I made the batter and poured it into the pan in one swift motion, making sure to even out the batter. I made for at once, taking up the whole station. I made sure to make more than enough knowing the boys' appetites. Once I was done I stacked two pancakes on each plate carefully, trying to make it look as aesthetic as I could.

With a steady hand, I placed butter on top of it and drizzled on some maple syrup. I dumped all the left over pancakes on one plate so that it would be easier for the boys to reach it if they ever want more. Taking out three bowls, I placed chocolate chips, sliced bananas and blueberries in them, then placing the bowls right in the middle of the table next to the stack of extra pancakes. By the time I was done, the sun had just started to rise. I was to focus that I didn't notice Taeyong standing in the doorway. One by one, the boys joined Taeyong as they watched me set up the table for breakfast.

I was only informed by their presence when Yuta suddenly blurted, "mmm it smells good in here". I couldn't help but suppress a laugh when I saw their sleepy state and their messy bed hair that almost resembled a bird's nest. They dragged their feet towards the dining table while still half asleep and dragged their chairs, resulting in screeching noises early in the morning. It felt as if they had a switch inside of them as their eyes were instantly opened wide at the sight of all the food in front of their faces. The sweet aroma made them suddenly wake up as they picked their utensils up, eager to gobble down any kind of food in sight.

"JAL MEOKGESSEUBNIDA," they said in unison before stuffing the food down their throats.

I laughed at their actions and took my own plate and ate silently while watching the boys. They were laughing and talking freely among themselves which warms my heart to see how close they are. After ten million jokes and a stack of pancakes, the boys were done eating. Their plates were so clean that I probably don't have to wash them. Okay no, that would be unhygienic but you get the point. While all the boys headed straight to the living room to digest their food, Jaehyun went straight to the bathroom to wash up. Ever since breakfast, I noticed that he was acting a little weird but I brushed it off since it was our anniversary.

After washing the dishes, I joined the boys in the living room who were playing games and doing their own stuff. I sat next to Donghyuk and Winwin who were playing Mario Cart, and watched them as they were so focused on winning the game. I decided to add to the fun and started to commentate the whole game. In the end, Donghyuk lost, which surprised everyone since he was the reigning champion of Mario Cart.

While everyone was busy teasing Donghyuk about his defeat, Jaehyun came out looking all dressed up. When everyone realized that Jaehyun was there, the teasing finally stopped.

"Where are you going?" I asked. He really was acting particularly different today and I find it weird how he was especially quiet.

He started sweating and avoided all eye contact.

"I'm going back to the company for a while. I got called back," he simply said.

He grabbed a cap that was randomly placed on the table and quickly went out the door to avoid any more questions.
