Chapter 1

Ring
Riing
Riiing
RIIIING!!!
I heard my alarm clock ringing insanely next to my head and couldn’t believe that it was 6:30 already. That feeling of only closing my eyes and opening them seconds later, I had when I was four, was realizing itself at the moment. I lazily reached for the snooze button. I hit several objects but couldn’t find my alarm.
“Gosh. Harsh wake up call.” I said sleepily into my mattress still holding the pillow over my head with my other hand.
RIIII-……
“Better.” I sighed with relief. I made a mental note: just pull the power cord out from the socket to avoid any more rings next time. But reality was cold and I knew that I had to leave the warm, inviting, comfort of my bed and take a shower to get ready for my first day back to school. It was a miracle that I had made it through the first thirteen years of school (yes thirteen: pre-k through 11th) and was finally entering my final year of mandatory school. Not counting college, I was basically done with my school career and wouldn’t be a student anymore. I was a senior.
I slowly dragged myself out of bed trying to prolong every second trying to avoid having to actually go to school. Sure I was excited to see my friends, but getting back into routine after a little over two months of vacation, is tough. I slowly but surely made my way to my bathroom and started the shower. Within seconds the whole bathroom was extremely hot and foggy, in contrast to my air conditioned bedroom, the bathroom felt like a sauna. I peeled my pajamas off dropping them at the foot of the shower entrance. The shower glass was basically opaque at that point from all the fog. I gave myself a good scrub down and lathered myself up from head to toe, Then went to work on washing and conditioning my hair. Once I was done taking a shower I stepped out wrapping myself in a freshly washed and dried towel my mother had laid out earlier this morning. Mmmm, I sighed, smells like honeysuckle and tangerines.
I made my way over to the sink and the mirror above it. Clearing it by rubbing off the glass I peered at my reflection giving it a weird face.
“Oh well hello there.” I smirked as I spoke to my reflection. “Good morning sunshine. Ready to go back to school?” I finger combed my sun-kissed light cinnamon brown hair and tossed it to the side and out of my face. I gave myself a quick swish of eyeliner and mascara to make my blue eyes pop. I slipped into my underwear and strode into my bedroom again. I gave my dresser a quick look through and settled for a white laced spaghetti strapped shirt with light wash shorts. I walked over to my bureau and picked off silver earrings and my mother’s blue topaz heart shaped locket. That meant the world to me since my dad had given it to her before he died. It was a small piece that I could remember him by and my mother knew that so she gave it to me. I just loved how the blue resembled my eyes and the fact that even though my father did the things he did, it was all I had left of him.
