I woke up with a thin layer of cold sweat covering me. I had a nightmare about what had happened years ago. But not only did I wake up sweaty, clammy, and sticky, but I also woke up to the view of my bed above me. Confused and disoriented I realized I had managed to fall off my bed. I gripped the covers and hoisted myself up. My alarm still hadn't sounded so I knew that I was early and could probably go back to sleep. A quick glance at my alarm clock confirmed my guess showing me that it was 5:30 am. Figuring that I wouldn't get much sleep I threw on a pair of thin sweats from my "still-wearable-not-yet-dirty-laundry-pile" and made my way silently down the stairs and outside.
Jogging usually cleared my mind and helped me calm down. I guessed that the mention of previous events, thanks to my brother last night, made me have flashbacks. I hadn't thought about it all for a while since we had moved and I had sworn never to give it a second thought.
I had been wrong thinking that I could just make it all disappear.
Twenty minutes later I finished my jog and entered my house. With a now fairly cleared mind from my dream I continued with my morning routine and prepared myself for school. Following my routine I showered and dressed. Once dressed in a simple black jean short and greenish-blue tank, I chose a simple pair of drop earrings made of diamond cut silver studded with some sort of blue stone. As I slipped the fish hook part of my earring into my earlobe I gasped in surprise at the reflection I saw in the mirror I was leaning over. A smile coming from the house next door greeted my. The smile of course belonging to Xavier. I walked across my soft baby blue area rug and opened up my window.
"Hey Stranger." I leaned against the window sill and smiled back.
"You're up kind of early." He said oh-so-thoughtfully while running a hand through his hair.
"I went out for a jog..." I paused. "I guess you could say that I needed to get some thoughts in my head cleared up."
He nodded in understanding, still however his eyes had a spark of curiosity for my words.
"So." I began. "I'm guessing that you haven't eaten breakfast yet?" I fiddled with a stray thread coming from the hem of my jeans. Once I had a good enough grip I tore it off.
"Well considering that I woke up about five minutes ago, I have to say that I haven't." He replied with a killer grin. I felt my cheeks heat up and blush.
"Well why don't you come over and have breakfast over here?" I blurted out not thinking at all about what I had just said. I slapped myself mentally in the face. I mean honestly. What/ Was. I. Saying?!
"Sure, that sounds great!" He beamed back politely oblivious to the mistake I had just made. "I'll get ready and see you in fifteen?"
"Yea. Fifteen minutes sounds fine." I replied not knowing how to break it to mom that we'd be having a guest over for breakfast without prior arrangements. Considering she always had those magazine worthy breakfasts she'd flip knowing she had limited time.
Mia. What. Did. You. Get. Yourself. Into?
I rolled my eyes at the thought sparing a quick glance at the clock, took a deep breath amd sped down the stairs to face my mother.
I knocked tentatively on my mother's bedroom door downstairs.
No reply.
If she was still sleeping and I was the cause of her waking up with news of our neighbor joining us in about fifteen minutes, I'd be hearing about it from her for the next ten years. I tried the door knob and found it open revealing her neat room. The bed was made and the door to the conjoined bathroom was open. I gave both rooms a quick once over and realized she wasn't there. I ran out to the hall to find it empty also.
