My peace and enjoyment of dancing with Xavier was short lived. In the back of my mind I had been aware of Becky, who would try to ruin everything, but I had thought that Hailey would have been right and we would have been able to stop her from telling everyone the secret.
In a matter of seconds I knew Xavier would either understand that none of what happened was my fault, or he would hate me for keeping it from him.
I pulled away from Xavier and looked up at him as Becky grabbed the microphone on stage where the musicians were preforming.
"Look I've been meaning to tell you this but I never knew how to come accross it. I just don't want you to hate me-" I started but was cut off by the feedback Becky was causing by tapping on the microphone.
"Excuse me. Hi everyone!" She said in her high pitched annoying voice. "I hope you're all having a great night today! I mean this dance is like totally amazing."
Everyone applauded and whistled in response.
Everyone was having a good time, but I felt the color drain from my face.
"Well I see how much you like the dance. Thanks for your honest opinions." She put the microphone back on the stand and took a step back. I thought she was done but clearly she wasn't. "Hahaha. Honesty is a funny word isn't it? What do you think Mia?"
I froze not able to say anything.
"What? Cat got your toungue? It's okay I can tell everyone for you." She smirked and I felt everything come to a standstill. "Mia here has been a naughty girl and has kept a secret from someone very special to her-"
Thankfully Becky never got to finish that sentance because of Aiden. He ran up on stage, dipped Becky and kissed her hard getting her to shut up instantly.
"Sorry guys. She was just mad I wouldn't dance with her. You know how I feel about dancing. I'm not too fond of it. Carry on." Aiden said with the microphone in one hand and Becky still dipped with the other. He winked at me and everyone went back to dancing without giving the scenareo a second thought.
I owed him big time.
"What was that all about?" Xavier broke through my thoughts.
I turned to face him still dazed at how close the secret had come to spilling. I opened my mouth to speak but Hailey materialized from the crowed and met us with her eyes wide.
"I'm so sorry. AIden was being stupid saying he didn't want to dance with her so he spent time eating and drinking. That eventually got to him and went to take a dump. I told him to keep and eye on Becky at all times. I'm so sorry!" She said in all honesty. I couldn't imagine her eyes get any wider but they did when she saw Xavier standing next to me.
Her hand slapped over her mouth as if she had spilled the secret itself.
"What's going on here. What plan? What secret. What's going on Mia?" Xavier asked. He looked down at the floor then back up.
"I-I just..." I ripped myself out from where my feet had been previously frozen to, pulled my heels off, and ran out of the school. Xavier's voice rang behind me along with Hailey's yelps and her shoes clicking against the floor.
I knew it had been a bad idea to go to the dance and that was too close to spilling everything out to Xavier. I knew running away never solved any problem but at the moment it seemed to be the best option.
