I realized how much I really did need to keep my mind off of the whole "oh-hey my dad may or may not have been the kidnapper/rapist/child-seller-who-sold-your-sister-but-hey-let's-still-be-friends" thing. The shopping for my winter dress and being able to spill everything I had been keeping bottled up to Hailey helped and I got back to my usual routine of wake up, go to school, get home, hang with friends, sleep and start over.
"Hey." I turned to face Xavier next to my locker.
"Oh Hi." I smiled brightly.
"Did I uh... do something wrong?" He scratched the back of his head. "You haven't spoken to me in a while. I dunno but I just felt as if you have been avoiding me. Was it the story about my sister? I didn't mean to get you all freaked out on that. I'm really sorry if I did." He rambled on quickly as if he wanted to get all his words out before it was too late.
Right then and there I wanted to say 'yes actually. And I have a secret that may or may not make you hate me for keeping it from you.' But I decided against it and kept smiling. "No no no. It wasn't that. I'm sorry for acting all weird and rude. It's just been hectic helping get the school dance together and tests and stuff. You know mid terms with the end of first semester. The usual." I chuckled hoping that he wouldn't see right through my obvious lie. I guess he didn't because he sighed with relief and his whole persona seemed less tense.
"Great so then I won't have to show up dateless to the dance." He said loudly then sighed dramatically making people stare.
"Ohmigosh Mia! You two are going together?" Someone asked.
"Aww that's so cute!" A preppy kid said.
"You two are like puzzle pieces together. You complete each other." Some hipster kid said.
In little to no time people formed a small mob around us. I had been so caught up in my worries that I never realized how many people knew who Xavier was and that he had become some sort of topic that people were very interested in. I mean yea he was gorgeous with his wavy locks, and those amazing aquamarine eyes, and his tall stature, but....Okay so there really wasn't a reason for people to not like talking about him.
He smiled and made a motion to quiet everyone down. "Yea. We are. After days of begging...I finally said yes." He joked and everyone started to crack up. "No but seriously." He waved them off and they cleared. He turned back to face me.
"So. What class do we have next? " He asked wrapping an arm around my shoulder.
I closed my locker and began to walk with him. "Well we have gym now actually." I made a face. Gym wasn't really my favorite class. I mean I didn't mind the sweat and the tired feeling after running laps in the hot, thick, stale air in the gym. Wait. Nope. Actually I did. And I always would.
"Oh please I know you love that class." He nudged me in the ribs playfully.
Once in the gym we spilt and went our ways to the changing room. I got to my locker and not a second had gone by until a few girls came over with questions about me and Xavier.
"I heard you two are eachother's dates!"
"Aw that's so cute!"
"I knew it from the beginning of the year!"
"You look cuter with Xavier than you did with Aiden."
The last one made me do a double take. "What do you mean?"
"Oh. sorry I didn't mean to strike a nerve." A petite girl started to shy away.
"No no it's alright I just wanted to know what you mean." I assured her.
