I ducked down beside the window in hopes that Hailey wouldn't drag me over there to wave back. I was dead wrong. That only made here all the more abusive she dragged me by my foot and flipped me to stand up and wave. I gave a weak wave and fake grin but Xavier seemed not to notice. So he did what any other nice person would do to give someone across the house alley way their full attention. He opened his window. And of course this led Hailey to do the same.

"Hey Xavier! I didn't know you lived next doors. Hailey never told me." Hailey emphasized by giving me a slap in the arm while sustaining a grimace.

"Yea! We just moved in. What about you? Live near by?" He asked picking up his cat to prevent it from falling out the window.

"Oh me?" She waved her hand, " I live across the street. When Hailey moved in I came over and started snooping around the mover's boxes. I saw that there were a few toys and got overly excited kids were finally moving into the neighborhood. When I saw it was another girl my age I lost it. So I walked up to her and told her we had to be best friends because I said so. And that's how we met." She ended giving me a tight hug as oppose to her previous death grips.

"Uh..." Xavier chuckled and trailed off.

Since clearly Hailey was at a loss I filled her in that he had simply asked where she lived and not how we had become friends. "And by the way she was telling the truth about forcing me into being friends. I mostly agreed because she had this scary look in her eyes and I was worried if I said no that she would kill me. So far being friends hasn't gotten me into that much trouble and I'm still alive so yea. It looks like she just might be a friend I'd like to keep." I ended punching her in the arm

We chatted along for a little while longer and somehow stumbled along the topic of family, but more specifically the topic of brothers and sisters. Basically siblings. How exactly we got to that subject I have no idea, but we did and that's when the conversation was basically a one way conversation. Xavier began to quiet down and fade himself out of the conversation. Briefly I thought back to the picture that he had on his phone wallpaper. He had the same face now at the mention of his sister.

"So what's she like? Hailey pushed on for information not getting that he was clearly avoiding the topic.

"Huh?" He asked with a blank look on his face. He was definitely out of it all. From the little time that I knew him, he didn't hit me as the type who was quiet ad secretive. Even though we had just met I missed his bubbly, happy, sweet self.

"Your sister. What's she like?" Hailey continued.

Xavier looked up at me with his eyes glazed over with an unreadable emotion. I snapped out of staring into his eyes and told Hailey to lay off. Trying to change the subject and slowly end the conversation, I stated that it was getting late and that he probably needed to get back to unpacking anyway.

"Yea I better get going. Moving in can be pretty tough and I still need to find my clothes in these boxes. You know how it is. He shrugged it off like it was something everyone went through. With one swift movement he picked up his kitten and gingerly placed it on the floor beside him.  "So yea. I guess I'll get going." He said as he scratched the back of his neck while half yawning. He looked so darn adorable.  Hailey gave me a jab in the ribs with her elbow and I realized that, once again being the very intelligent person I was, I was staring open mouthed at him in admiration.

"Alright see you tomorrow." She giggled  walking away to the hallway and down the steps. I heard her talking and laughing with my brother and I didn't want to know what was going on. I turned back to Xavier to say goodbye for the night.

"So," I traced my finger along the window frame through the ridges inside. "I guess I'll let you go. See you tomorrow?"

"Sure." He smiled. "See you tomorrow." He waved and reached up to pull down his window then draw his curtains shut.
