When I was about five years old I met this boy who was the son of my father's best friend. Shortly after we met his parents were killed in a fire and so the boy went to live with his aunt. His aunt happened to live next doors and worked late so the boy usually spent the days at my house and we were like brother and sister. I would tell him secrets that when I was young were very imprtant. We would play in the yard, go to school together and would talk in code sometimes. I was happy and i couldn't ask for more. That boy made me feel like I was living in a story book where boy meets girl, they grow up and become high school sweethearts.

We were very close to the poit I could say I loved him, but then that boy got caught up with trouble along with my father landing him in jail.

That boy was Devon.

After I calmed down and my cries were just shudders I spoke to him. He had me wrapped in his arms and his hand was rubbing my back to calm me down.

"It's been so long." I whispered.

"It has been." Devon replied. I looked up into his grey blue eyes. They were so clear they looked like glass, but his eyes unlike mine had a bit of silver in them. They would shine bright in the light and darken to a midnight blue in the dark. He lifted his hand up to my face and stroked away the tears and smudged make up. I shivered at the touch. I ran my hand through his hair slowly remembering all the good times we had before he was taken away.

"They made you cut it." I pointed out.

"Yea. It's kind of a thing here." He smiled. His eyes sparkled and I felt like I would burst into tears again. He seemed okay even though he was locked up.

"How can you do it?" I asked.

"Jail?" I nodded."Well iI'm getting out for good behaviour soon so I can't really say much. But also because my time is almost up anyway. Assistance in trafficking and selling s a minor will just make you an accomplice here. Your father..." He trailed off.

I looked into his eyes pleading for him to tell me.

"Your father before...you know. He told them that he was to blame and to please let me out early. he said that he had forced me to help with the trafficking. He hadn't but he knew it would help me get out." Devon sighed. He looked out the dirty little window with bars and sighed closing his eyes. "i could not thank him enough for what he did. if He hadn't helped me i would be dead."

His words took me by surprise.

"What do you mean?" I asked him trying to get him to look at me.

"Well It's a long story." He smiled weakly.

"We've got time." I tried to return the smile.

"Actually you don't." A voice broke in. I jumped a little but realized it was the guard. "You arrived late and visiting hours are over in five minutes."

I wanted to fall on the floor and cry and throw a fit and yell all at once. But I didn't.

"When can we come back?" I sighed.

"Tomorrow. Visiting hours are from ten to five. You are actually late here. It's five thirty." The guard said. "You can come tomorrow around that time. He's not going anywhere." The guards said jokingly.

I tried to smilebut I couldn't. "Okay." I whispered.

I got up from the seat and brushed my pants off. I looked at Devon. We had been best friends for as long as I could remember and now it was like he was a different person.

"I'll leave you to say your goodbyes until tomorrow." Hailey said. I had forgotten she was there. For the first time she was quiet.

"Well i guess this is it. For now." i sighed and shuddered lightly from the cry i had before.
