-- (Y/N)'s POV --
I was sitting in the sandbox just playing with all the sand. Mom and I had just moved to California after mom and dad got divorced. I looked up from the sand and noticed my mom talking to a lady. They pointed at me before they pointed at a boy that was by the swings. I then turned towards my mother as she called me over. I got out of the sand and walked over to her as I noticed the boy came over, too.
"(Y/N), this is Arlan! He's going to the same school are you are and are in the same Kindergarten class as you!" My mother said as I looked at the boy. I gave him a confused look before moving towards my mom and hiding my face in her shoulder.
"Oh, she's shy I see. Maybe she can come over to my house tonight? What do you think, Arlan? A play date with (Y/N)?" Arlan's mother said. I slowly looked up and watched the boy nod.
"Yeah! Come on, (Y/N)! Let's go play on the swing." Arlan said to me. I looked up at my mother as she smiled and nodded.
"It's okay, baby. Go on and make a new friend." Mom said to me. I whined some as I got off her lap and walked towards the swings with Arlan.
"You want to come to my house? Mommy will make us pizza. It's my favorite!" Arlan said as I sat on the swing. Arlan sat on the one next to me as I smiled some.
"I like pizza... I like with lots of cheese!" I said as I began to kick my feet. Arlan chuckled as he kicked his feet, too.
"I also like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, ham and cheese sandwiches, corn dogs, chicken nuggets, spaghetti... ooh! My mom makes the BEST tacos and enchiladas ever!" Arlan said. I nodded some as I thought about what I liked to eat.
"I can't eat peanut butter and jelly. I'm allergic to the peanut butter. I like corn dogs, chicken nuggets... that's really all I eat." I giggled softly. Arlan smiled brightly at me as we swung together for a bit.
Soon, Arlan's mom called us as we then walked back to his house. The two of us walked hand in hand while Arlan held his mom's hand. We crossed a street or two before we walked into his house. Arlan lead me to their coffee table in their living room where he began to gather stuff to color.
I smiled as he gave me a piece of paper and some crayons. I thought about what to draw before quickly doodling it down. It was a drawing of myself and Arlan. I smiled down at it before slowly looking over at him. He smiled at it before looking at me.
"That us? W-we going to be friend forever?" Arlan asked me. I smiled brightly and quickly nodded. Arlan smiled as he wrapped his arms tightly around me.
"Best friends forever, Arlan!" I said as I wrapped my arms around his neck. He giggled as he hugged me closer.
-- Twenty Years Later --
< If you can't do the math, Arlan and (Y/N) are both 25 >
I was stating at the picture that was in a frame. If was the picture I drew of Arlan and myself when we met. It stood on the dresser next to the crib that was in the baby's room. I heard footsteps walking down the hall before they stopped at the door. I turned around and saw my husband standing in the doorway.
"You still think back to that day? I do all the time." My husband said as he wrapped his arms around me from behind. I smiled as I placed my hands over his.
"That day was the best day of my life. Until I married you and had a child." I turned around and looked up at Arlan. He smile and he kissed my forehead softly.
"You're still my best friend, right (Y/N)?" Arlan asked. I slowly nodded and hid my face in his chest.
"Always and forever. You're my best friend for life." Arlan whispered in my ear as we both heard the baby start to whine. We both looked at the crib and smiled at our son.
