Alistair frantically flicked through the pages. He had a feeling the girls were in trouble, and he had yet to find something useful. Tristan was not a big help- he couldn't read Latin. Suddenly, he came across a paragraph. "Beati bellicosi," he read, "meaning blessed are the warriors. The gods and the angels were once a sibling race, borne of God's blood. However, they went their different ways millenia ago- shadowhunters to fight the dark and demigods to keep the peace. Nowadays, they have stopped communicating altogether, but their spawn are still blessed with their powers."

Tristan peeked over. He had almost dozed off. "Pardon?" He had never seen the new boy look so serious.

"Show this to Thea." Tristan did, mentally sharing the paragraph with the goddess.

------------

Kia peeked around the corner. Vampire, she mouthed. Stay with that ugly slug. It's a behemoth, Wren mouthed back. It eats everything in it's way, and I don't want to die yet. Stay behind it, replied Kia, it's stink will mask our scent. She joined the Shadowhunter behind the slug.

Thea groaned, rubbing her forehead. "Oh, this is hurting my brain." She focused on the text. So the Shadowhunters are legacies, their power cut off and only unlocked through the runes. Us demigods didn't really fit the peace type so we ended up splitting up, I guess. So our best bet is that Tom wants to rejoin our worlds and cause chaos, because it'll be like the Great War all over again. Even worse than your Shadow War thing.

Kylie glanced at Thea. "Feel free to fill me in?"

Thea looked over. "I'm going back to the Institute. Get to the rendezvous points, follow Kia's lead."

  ------------

The vampire smiled cruelly. "Come on out, I know you're in here." Wren froze. What do we do, she mouthed. Kia conjured the shadows to her side, shooting them out. "Grnk-" The leech stumbled over, disintegrating.

Wren sighed in relief. Kia beckoned Wren to follow her, and they made their way out. "Come on, let's go." Kia wrapped the shadows around the two, and they shadow travelled away.

"You're back!" Alistair hugged Kia, nuzzling his chin into her hair. "I thought you were in danger!"

Kia laughed, her voice muffled from being pressed into Alistair's shirt. "We got ourselves stuck in a cellar with a behemoth. It's a demon, by the way."

  ------------

Thea rushed into the library, watching as Alistair and Tristan continued to work. She saw Wren and Kia watching over their respective love interests, and then looked around again. "Where's Kylie? Did you not meet at the rendezvous points?"

Kia shook her head. "I think she got kidnapped or something. We went to the rendezvous points, but she wasn't there. I shadow-travelled Wren back because she's better with long distance stuff, and we've got to fight close up." She sighed. "Time for a heroic rescue." She gathered the shadows again. "Come on, let's go."

Thea groaned. "I cannot join you. I need to help with Tristan and Alistair with the translations and work out what the connections are. You two, go find Kylie. Try to go as covert as you can. When you've got Kylie. Tell me, and I'll come over. Hopefully we can do this as fast as we can. I hope you didn't make too big of a show when you defeated the demons and vampires on your side? I would like all rogue Shadowhunters brought to me. Understood?"

Kia smirked. "Trust me, those annoying bloody buggers didn't even see them coming."

"I am not speaking of the vampires, I'm saying, were you stealthy? I assure you, I understand your shadows are quite light-consuming, but Wren on the other hand may not be as gifted as you." Thea said. "I fear that if Tom finds any remnants of your arrows, he may use it to summon you to him. He does have some magic, and is pretty powerful for a Shadowhunter without Alistair's specific heritage." Thea groaned. Okay, mindlink established, this is without Wren. We cannot let her know about the two worlds.

  ------------

Kylie looked around the rendezvous point. No one. No heat signatures. There was a blob of cold patches in the corner, and two of them seemed human shaped. Wren and Kia had left without her. Suddenly, she was struck from behind, and she fell to the ground. A rough hand yanked her upwards and pinned her hands behind her back. She looked behind her, and saw an unfamiliar face. Brown hair, with dizzy blue eyes that swirled and swirled...

  ------------

Kia narrowed her eyes. "This is going to be a solo mission, Thea. I shadow-travelled us away; I'm in charge of shadow-travelling us back. If there's going to be anyone finding Kylie, it's has to be me." The shadows wrapped around her like a cloak, and she disappeared.

Kia reappeared in the cellar, the shadows masking her appearance. She arrived just in time to see a brunette drag an unconscious Kylie away. Regardless of Thea's warning, she sprinted after Kylie's captor, running like the wind.

  ------------

Kia! Oh my gods Kia. Covert mission? Stay in the shadows, Kia. And this is a snatch and grab. I do not want Tom thinking the shadowhunters are gaining on him. He needs to stay arrogant. Thea buried her face in her hands. "Kia is going in solo. Wren, I'm gonna bring you in, but outside the warehouse. Intercept anything that comes near. Use these arrow, they may work better." Thea handed her her quiver.

  ------------

Kylie woke up, woozy. The boy with the blue eyes, probably Thea's old friend and nemesis Tom. "What do you want, Thomas?"

Tom smiled kindly at the girl. "So you know my name. That means you're a friend of Arthella's?" Tom laughed. "That's impossible. Thea works alone. She doesn't need help. She's the god, well, goddess of Time herself! If she wants to have a chat with her old buddy Tom, she would have come herself." He noticed the trace of an old rune on her hand, and he smiled again. "Oh, a shadowhunter? You might not be a friend of Thea's after all? Althea never dared to pass that line. Not after that other incident."

Kylie struggled against her bonds. "Let me go, you demon!"

"Oh trust me, dear, I will." His eyes glowed, as he twisted her mind. Confusion was his speciality, and now she would see friend as foe, foe as friend.

Kylie gasped, and she felt her mind become drowsy, until it was like she was half asleep. Her hands gripped her hidden stele, and began to carve a rune on the palm of her hand. She began to draw the rune. The spell-breaker rune. She was unsure of the effects, since she had never faced a warlock that could have knocked her out with only a glance.

"You serve me now." Tom untied her wrists. "Show me your Institute."

Kylie smiled. She got up groggily, before saying robotically, "yes master." She walked slowly towards the brown haired Latino. As he smiled, Kylie grinned as well, before slashing out with her katana, slicing through the material of his shirt, and then kicked him straight in the face. "You don't know anything about me. Plus, do you even check your captives for weapons?"

Tom struggled to rise, but Kylie slammed him into the floor. "You... little. Bi..."

Kylie shoved her boot in his face. "Sorry, warlock, that is bad language. And I can't let you look at me. I for one won't get lost in your eyes." She retrieved her batons and knocked him in the face, and the brown haired demigod was knocked unconscious.

Kia whistled. "Wow, I didn't even have to do anything. I'm going to kick him in the face for extra measure." She poked Tom's head with the tip of her boot, and his head lolled over. She pulled back and lashed out again. Thomas did not wake. "Definitely unconscious." She covered Kylie with the shadows, and the two girls made their way out.
