My eyes started watering at what Mark had said, but I knew he was right.
I give him a nod and a small smile before turning my back and walking to the stage.
I plugged my phone into the sound system and picked out the song that I would be dancing to.
The song is called "I Need You" by M83, from the Divergent soundtrack.
Although it had just came out recently, I loved the song and one of the ballet dances I did before my mother died would go nicely with the beat.
There was a remote that I took with me as I walked to the stage, so I could start the song whenever I wanted to.
I would need to stretch before I started dancing, because there were some pretty tough moves in this dance and I haven't danced at all in so long.
After I stretched for a good ten minutes, I stood in the center of the stage, my back facing the seats.
I took a deep breath before pressing play and tossing the remote to the side of the stage.
The music started after a few seconds, and I started dancing when it was time, the song was fairly slow.
Everything was going smoothly for about the first minute, it felt almost natural to be on stage again.
Then my big turn was coming up, I went up on my pointe and one leg went up in pique, where it was bent towards the side and my arms were tilted to the left in a straight line.
I kept turning for about ten seconds, which is almost inhuman for most people, but it just came to me.
I was most known for my turns, they've been compared to the turns of a figure skater because they're so fast and accurate, and I could hold them for up to twenty seconds, which even my mother couldn't do.
Once I got past the turn, I gained even more confidence as I danced. The movements were fluid and everything blended together.
It was hard to judge myself, but I thought I was doing very well for not dancing in two years.
Once I concluded the dance with a final pose, my back facing the seats and one arm up as I look at the ceiling, all of my weight on my right leg.
I take a deep breath and I couldn't hide the smile on my face as I turn around to face the seats, fake curtsying to them, but that's when something caught my eye.
There was a man leaning against the doorframe, watching me.
My eyes meet his as he starts clapping his hands while walking down one of the aisles, towards the stage.
He was one of the tallest men I'd ever seen, short brown hair and was flashing me a gorgeous smile. He looked around my age, maybe a little older, and very familiar. I know for a fact I'd seen him before, but I didn't remember where.
"That was beautiful" He says as he nears the stage, stopping at the first aisle of seats.
"Thank you, how long have you been watching me?" I ask as I walk to the edge of the stage, sitting on it and letting my legs dangle over the side.
"I heard the music so I followed it" He said, leaning against one of the chairs, "You look awfully familiar."
"I'm Ellie Lawrence's daughter" I said quietly, my eyes never leaving his.
"Right, m..." He whispered as if he was trying to remember my name.
"Maddie" I say with a small smile.
"Maddie" He repeats, and I could've sworn I saw his eyes looking up and down my body.
"I'm Ansel, Ansel Elgort" He says with a cheeky smile, and as soon as the words fall from his lips I know exactly who he is, he was an actor and a musician.
Although I remember hearing that he was from New York City, I had never seen him here or any other celebrity for that matter.
"Right, I remember you now. Big fan of Divergent and The Fault In Our Stars" I say quietly, heat rushing to my cheeks. Ansel's next movie, The Fault In Our Stars, was coming out in about a month.
"Is that so? You wouldn't strike me as a reader" He says, that breathtaking smile still on his face, "You always dance like that, Maddie?"
"Well not exactly... I haven't danced since my mother died two years ago" I whisper, now looking down at the ground.
"Right, I'm very sorry about that. What made you dance now then?"
"I figured I'd give it a try, I think she would want me to" I say, the last part barely audible.
"I think you're right. Nice choice of song, too" He says, a small smirk playing at his lips. The song was from Divergent, one of the movies he was in.
I roll my eyes slightly and laugh, lifting myself off of the stage and landing on the ground.
He was definitely tall, because I was about 5'10" and he was a head taller than me.
"Well I've got to get to work, but I would love to talk to you again sometime Maddie" he says and winks at me, causing me to blush, "Will you be here after the concert?"
I didn't know what he meant by going to work, I didn't know of there being any new movies he was in filming currently.
"Yeah, I'm staying for the concert. I don't know anyone who's playing, though." I say quietly, shrugging my shoulders slightly.
He just nods once as the smile on his face widens, and he moves past me to walk towards the backstage area.
"I'll see you after the concert, Maddie" He says, turning to glance at me before disappearing behind the stage.
