*Maddie's POV*
I give Sarah a smile before turning and walking with Ansel out of the dance studio as he leads me back to his car, my dance bag slung over his left shoulder. He refused to let me carry it, he really was such a gentleman.
"From what I saw, you're amazing. A very talented dancer, even after not dancing for two years." He says, opening the passengers side door for me once we reach it.
His kind words cause me to smile a bit, a light pink blush appearing on my cheeks. I get in the car, and wait for him to get in the drivers side before responding.
"Thank you, but I could have done much better. It'll take a little while to get back to my full capability, where I want to be." I say, glancing over at him as he starts the car.
"I understand. Just don't get too hard on yourself, ease into it." He says as he begins to drive back towards my aunt's apartment.
My had told me to invite him over for dinner so she could meet him, so we agreed to hang out there before dinner.
My only response is a small nod and I reach up to take my mothers locket I was wearing in my hand, my thumb grazing over the bumps in the small seashell.
I notice Ansel peek over at me, a curious look in his eyes when they fall on the seashell locket.
"I meant to ask before... That's your mothers, isn't it?" He questions, his eyes moving back to the road.
"Yes, she loved the beach... There's a picture of her on one side and my father on the other side. I vowed to wear it every time I dance." I say quietly, almost in a whisper.
Ansel nods once, deciding to let things go after that, probably to make sure I didn't get too emotional.
The rest of the car ride was quiet until we reached my aunts apartment. Ansel quickly got out of the car, moving to the passengers side to open the door for me and take my dance bag.
I thank him and stand, grabbing his free hand in mine as I lead him up towards the apartment.
He gripped at my hand quite tightly and I could see the worried look on his face.
A small smirk forms at my lips when it finally clicks and I realize why he was acting this way.
"Is Ansel Elgort, multi movie star who has done multiple interviews with people he's never met, nervous to meet my aunt?" I ask, the smirk resting on my lips when he turns to look at me.
"Nervous, what? No way!" He says even though the worry was clear in his eyes. "Okay, maybe a little. But I can't help it, I want her to like me. For her not to think that I'm some jackass movie star."
"Ansel, she won't think you're a jackass movie star, because you're not. Just be yourself." I say softly, and almost lean up on my toes to kiss him on the lips, but stop myself.
We hadn't had our first kiss yet, I've never even kissed anyone. I knew he was very experienced with kissing, due to the movies he had been in.
Especially The Fault In Our Stars, coming out in a week or so now. I had read the book so I know what happens, and it includes a lot more than kissing.
I quickly shake the thought from my head and when I do, I realize we're already standing at the door of my apartment.
I blink a few times and glance up at him, giving him an encouraging smile before opening the door.
Once we're fully into the apartment, my aunt stands and walks over to meet us.
"Aunt Amy, this is Ansel, my... boyfriend." The word feels strange falling from my lips, but I can't help but smile a bit.
"Ansel, it's very nice to meet you. Please, call me Amy." My aunt says with a genuine smile, and you could see how happy she was for me.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Amy." Ansel says and reaches his free hand out to shake my aunts.
Aunt Amy's eyes glance down at our intertwined fingers as she shakes Ansel's hand, her smile widening.
"Come on, let's sit." I say and pull him further into the house, over to the couch.
I sit down in the middle and he sits next to me, my aunt sitting in the chair across from us.
"So, Ansel, you've been in a few movies?" My aunt asks casually, crossing her legs as she looks over at Ansel.
"Yeah, I've been in Carrie and Divergent, and I'm going to be in The Fault In Our Stars that comes out in a week." He says with a nod, his features beginning to relax as he becomes more comfortable.
"That's wonderful! I knew you looked familiar, I haven't watched your movies yet, but I have seen a few articles about you." She says with a soft smile, and he returns it.
"Don't be fooled though, I'm not like most famous people. I like just hanging out in New York, mixing music." He says with a shrug, and I smile over at him.
Even though he had more money than he count count, and tons of girls going after him, he still just wanted a normal girl like me and a normal life, and that's what I admired about him.
They chatted for a bit longer, talking about the start of Ansel's career and about his family, and how I would have to meet them soon.
Eventually it came time for dinner, and we all sat down at the table to eat a meal of chicken and potatoes, cooked by my aunt.
Once we finish eating, we stay sitting around the table, chatting about random things.
The Fault In Our Stars came up again, and my aunt asked what he would be up to since the premiere is soon.
"Well I travel a few different places for interviews after the movie comes out, but before that, I attend the premiere which is right here in New York City. And speaking of that, I guess now would be a good time to ask..." He says and turns his attention toward me, a small grin on his lips.
"Madeline Lawrence, would you do me the honor of attending The Fault In Our Stars premiere with me, as my date?" He asks and my eyes go wide, quickly nodding.
I knew it would be a big step, going from the girl who spent nights alone in her room and was extremely quiet in school to attending a red carpet event as the lead movie star's date, but if Ansel wanted me there, I was there.
"I would absolutely love to, Ansel. I will need some help with the dress and stuff though, I've never dressed up like that." I admit, a light laugh escaping my lips.
"Oh don't worry about that, my stylist will be more than excited to be dealing with a girl for once. She's always wanted to but she got stuck with me." He says with a chuckle.
I nod and smile, and then turn to look at my aunt. She had a wide grin on her face, obviously happy that I had found someone who really cares for me.
"My little Maddie, attending a red carpet event..." My aunt says, the grin remaining on her lips as she shakes her head a bit. "It's crazy." She adds.
And I couldn't agree more.
*Authors Note*
Hey guys! This is going to be kind of a long authors note, because I have a lot to address. So first of all, I've gotten a few messages and comments on my stories, and I really appreciate them! Never feel weird about messaging me on here or even dming me on twitter (@iamockingjay) & especially commenting, I loooove reading comments, especially what you like about the story!Second, and now to do with the fanfiction. I know The Fault In Our Stars already came out most places, but this story is occurring around the premiere of the movie. I know for most places that was in June, but in this it's around November, because Maddie is still in school, not that far into it. I realize this is different from real life, but hey, it's a fanfiction so everything won't end up perfect. And I apologize if everything that has to do with the premiere isn't correct, because I'm not very familiar with that.
Soooo yeah, I believe that's it. Remember to follow me on twitter (@iamockingjay) to talk about the story or even just talk! And please message or comment(: Sorry for such a long authors note, I appreciate if you read it all! Thank you so much for 5k reads, and I'll try to update as soon as possible! Love you all!
