"So you're originally Syrian?"
She nodded. "I am. My dad is, Mom is Irish. That's why I live here."
He smiled. "That's really cool." Luke was genuinely amazed. It was a nice change seeing someone with a double nationality. "Yeah. It really is."
"And you. What are you doing in Ireland?"
He simply shrugged. "My dad got a better offer here." He answered. "And do you have a double nationality?" He shook his head.
"No, both my parents are British. Although my mom has Turkish roots, I have been told."
Khadijah didn't even get the chance to reply before the library door was bursted open and Louisa ran up to them.
"What's going on, Lou?" Luke asked his younger sister. Louisa looked between the two, confused. "You two know each other?" She pointed at the both of them.
"You know each other?" Luke replied to her question, with yet, another question. Louisa nodded. "Of course we do. We're friends."
Luke's eyebrows were lifted as he turned to Khadijah. "Really?" He asked, amusement shown in his voice. She looked down and nodded.
"Yes. We are." Khadijah looked up and smiled. She got off the beanbag and gave Louisa a hug. Louisa was caught off guard for a second before smiling and hugging her back.
"Aww how cute. But me now, what did you want, Louisa?" Louisa pulled away from from Khadijah and gave him a glare. "Can't you see I'm hugging a friend here?"
He chuckled softly, nodding. "I see, indeed. But again, what do you want?" He asked. "Mom and Dad want you home. It's dinner time." He nodded.
"Got you," he turned to Khadijah. He didn't want to leave her alone. She lifted her hand and shook her head. "It's okay. I have to leave as well."
The three of them left the library and went their separate. Louisa and him walked in silence until he decided to break it. "You and Khadijah really are friends?"
Louisa stopped in place and turned to her brother. She stared at him for a second before nodding, smiling. "Yeah. We are." Louisa simply answered. "But... why are you asking?"
To admit, Luke wasn't sure why he asked the question in the first place. He was confused to why the idea came into his mind, to begin with. He knew that he cared, he cared about everyone.
It was what shaped him into the humane person he was.
He couldn't put his finger on why he felt such need to look after Khadijah and take care of her. But he still couldn't recognize the feeling, he felt that way towards Louisa. He would recognize the urge towards Khadijah as well.
But.. that wasn't it. It was on another level.
