I went still at Mira's deal-like proposal and confession.
"If you wanted to date me, you could've just asked me normally," I said, moving my face away from her hand. "Why go to such lengths?"
"Every girl who has asked you out got turned down no matter how pretty or smart they were," she said, frowning and raising an eyebrow. "How else was I supposed to get your attention?"
"What are you, a sasaeng?" I whispered, feeling my voice dwindle from all the idiocy.
She had a smug look in her face.
"I prefer 'super' fan," she said, fluttering her eyelashes and looking proud.
I took in a deep breath and let it out, feeling my frustration bottle up and just waiting to explode.
"Why bother? People already hate me enough. It's not worth it for you to be with me," I said, genuinely confused as to why she was doing this.
"Not everybody hates you, Jimin," she said, looking me in the eye. "Like me."
"That's it?" I asked, exasperated.
"What else do you want me to say?" she said, baffled. "I like you and I always have ever since you helped me up from my slump last year. I want to be with you through every hurdle and struggle. I want to be there when you need someone. I want to be your important person. Is there a need to ask why when you're in love?"
Yes...there is, I thought somberly.
Because that person can hurt you as much as you love them...Maybe more.
"What's your answer?" she said, letting her phone peek out for a moment behind her back.
Her eyes had confidence in them and I knew she would release that audio if I didn't comply.
This decision was like choosing between 2 roads on the path of my life.
The first road, the choice of letting her spread the audio, was filled with thorns and dark woods that seemed to go on forever. It was relentless and frightening with shadows everywhere. It meant being torn apart and falling multiple times. It meant being hurt to the point of breaking down...But behind all of it, in the far distance, a small glimmer of light led to the end.
