Saige's POV

I instinctively reached out to Asher, pulling him to the ground. Harry's back was pressed against me as he lifted the gun, searching for a target.

"Who is that?" I whispered to Harry.

He didn't say anything, peaking around the tree. He started to get up but I wrapped my hand around him wrist, pulling him back down. "Where are you going?"

"I-"

Another shot rung out, hitting the tree above Harry's head.

I pulled him down. "They're not just shooting, they're snipers, Harry."

He pressed his back against the tree, closing his eyes. "Fuck."

"What?"

He turned to me, his eyes meeting mine. "Listen to me very carefully, you stay here, when you hear my gunshots, you run in the other direction."

"Harry, I-"

"No, you're leaving while I draw them away, no matter what," he said before turning to Asher. "Get her out of here."

Asher nodded, wrapping his arm around my arm and pulling me away. "Asher, we can't just leave him."

He pulled me towards him, his eyes meeting mine. "He said he's going to to take care of it, you have to trust him."

"They're going to kill him-"

He ignored me, pulling me away as the sound of gunshots filled the the trees around us. Asher pressed me against the tree, looking over to see if Harry was okay.

A bullet pierced the tree beside us, making both Asher and I hit the ground to protect ourselves. "Stay here, please."

"Asher, no, you can't-"

"I don't hear Harry," he said, turning around. "I'll see if-"

"Please don't leave me here," I sobbed, gripping him tightly. "I can't lose you too."

"And we can't lose Harry," he said before sighing. "Without him, we're weak."

I pulled back as he snatched his arm away from him, shocked by his words. Twenty minutes ago, he hated Harry and now here he was willing to die to make sure he's safe.

I nodded as he let go of my hand, peaking around the tree before running over to where we were hiding before. I pressed my back further into the tree, the bark scratching harshly at my skin as I closed my eyes, holding my gun tightly against my chest.

Multiple rounds of gunshots rang out, a few groans and whispering here and there before it ceased.

"Saige!"

I stayed pressed against the tree, mumbling a prayer underneath my breath as I heard footsteps come closer.

"Saige-"

Asher came over to me, wrapping his fingers around my gun, pulling it from my hands. The blood rushed to my fingers, making them throb. I hadn't realized I was holding the gun so tightly.

"Harry's hurt, we need to go," Asher said, pulling me to my feet. "Now."

Pieces slowly clicked in my mind as I took in the scene around me. Three people lay on the ground, dead. I turned to Harry, who was on the ground, clutching his ankle.

I mentally begged that it wasn't a gunshot wound, that would be hard to treat. A bite would be worse.

"What happened?" I choke, kneeling down beside Harry.

"I think I twisted it when I moved away too quickly." He said, his voice strained as he looked up at me.

My shaky fingers pressed against his ankle, causing him to hiss in pain. "It-um, it doesn't look broken, more than likely sprained."

Growling spread around the forest, our ears perking up. "They must have heard the gunshots, we need to move now."

"Harry, can you walk on it?" Asher asked him.

He tried to get up but Asher and I's arms wrapped around him, pulling him to his feet. He leaned on his hurt foot, throwing his head back in pain.

"I think so, it just hurts." He nodded, keeping my arm wrapped around his waist.

"Asher, you go ahead, lead the way, I've got him."

"Are you sure? I'm much stronger than you." He grinned before turning and leading the way.

Harry rested not even half his whole weight on me, wincing as he put weight on his foot. "Harry, lean on me, you're not going to hurt me."

He sighed before putting most of his weight on me, another wince coming from between his lips.

After we gathered our things, heading away from the three dead bodies. Harry limped along, my arm wrapped around him as Asher searched the area ahead of us.

After about an hour, Harry was panting heavily, leaning harshly against me as I struggled to hold him up.

"Asher, we need to rest." I said to him.

"No, I'm fine, keep going." Harry said to me.

"No, walking on your foot can just make it worse," I said, setting him against a tree. "Easy to walk on a healed sprained ankle than a broken one."

Asher set out things down, handing Harry a bottle of water. "Thanks."

"I'm going to go search for somewhere to settle down for the night, if I'm not back in an hour, make camp here tonight."

"What? Saige, you're not going by yourself." Asher said.

"Yeah, I'll be fine here, you two-" Harry started.

"No, you can't even defend yourself right now, I'm not leaving you here alone," I said before turning to Asher. "Stay here, I'll be back in an hour."

"Fine," Asher groaned. "Saige, just be careful."

"I know."

Harry's POV

I watched as Asher's eyes filled up with tears as Saige left.

"She'll be fine." I reassured him.

He took a seat next to me, sighing deeply. "You have the biggest crush on here, you loser."

"What?"

"Oh, come on," he laughed at me. "I'm not blind."

"We're just trying to survive." I rolled my eyes at him, wincing at the pain my side.

"I've never seen her so determined than when you hurt yourself," he said softly. "When you went after those people, you should have seen her face, she was pinned so hard against that tree, her fingers wrapped around the gun so tightly that her fingers were white."

"Because she was scared."

"Because you were risking your life for us."

"Those people-"

A sudden, loud, screech filled the air, my words faltering in my mouth.

Asher's eyes went big as they met mine. "Saige."
