Saige's POV
James forced everyone to have another party here, mostly to take the focus on the wounded away. To take away the focus on the attack on our camp. Pulling people's mind from the lives taken away from us.
I watched as people mingled in their stupid large dress, laughing and smiling at each other. How could they be so happy when five lives were lost less than twenty-four hours ago?
I shook my head, downing the drink of alcohol in my hand. I cringed as it burned the back of my throat, reaching for a refill. It was the only resource of happiness I had left, might as well embrace it.
If Harry were here, he wouldn't probably flip at the way they were acting. People had said goodbye to their family just yesterday and here they were, toasting and smiling. What right did they have to bounce back like nothing ever happened?
People died. Daughters saw their mother's lose their limbs as a result of the bomb. They cried as they struggled to stop the blood pouring from their parents. They were absolutely broken, but here they were, drinking and laughing together.
It disgusted me.
I drank the rest of the contents in my cup, one after another until my body became numb as I wasn't able to pay attention to the selfish people that surrounded me. I felt someone's hand rest on my shoulder, turning around to see Asher.
"Saige, are you all right?"
I pulled a smile. "I'm just dandy, what about you?"
I stumbled slightly, Asher's hand going to my waist to hold me up. "We need to get you home."
"Why?" I said, pushing him away. "We're all having a party here!"
He glared at me, willing me with his eyes to shut up. "Saige.."
"No, no, Asher," my voice raised as I pulled my arm away. "We're all here to celebrate but I'm not exactly sure what we're celebrating considered five people died yesterday!"
Everyone's heads turned to me, their mouths agape.
"People tried to kill us yesterday, they killed many people, our people, why are we celebrating lives when they're all lost?"
James started to come over to me but Asher stopped him. "You," I spat, pointing a finger at James. "You know what you did. And you're going to pay for it."
Asher pulled me from the room, pushing me towards my apartment. "What right did these people have to enjoy life when other's can't?"
My legs gave out underneath me as I hit the ground. "When Harry can't be here with me."
A choked sob left my lips as I cried. "He should be here with me."
Asher wrapped his arms around me, pulling me to my feet. "Get it together, Frey, come on."
I pushed him away, tears blurring my vision. "You don't even care! Harry saved us, he was our friend, he's gone and you don't even care!"
"I do care!" He roared, his face hovering in front of mine.
His eyes were glistening with tears, filled with sadness. "I miss him too, Saige."
He wrapped his arms around me, pulling me inside my apartment. I immediately ran to the bathroom, throwing up the contents of my stomach. Asher followed me, handing me a glass of water.
I stumbled to the ground, leaning against the wall as I looked up at Asher.
He smiled at me before laughing. "You look a mess."
I laughed with him, resting my head against the wall. Our laughter died down, leaving us two in silence.
"Do you think they really killed him?"
I looked away, fumbling with the end of my dress. "I don't know anymore. If he was alive, he'd come back for me. For us. They want me to believe he's dead, so he is."
"I don't understand why Harry was such a threat to them, Jay's gone now anyways."
"I don't think they planned on losing their prince. H would have made a better one anyway."
"You really loved him?"
I nodded, looking up at him. "I did. He loved me too. I guess it wasn't enough."
"At least he died knowing you truly loved him." Asher said, waiting for my reaction.
"Yeah, I did."
I closed my eyes as I rested my head against the wall.
Suddenly, gunshots filled the town, screaming and yelling filling the spaces between. Asher and I immediately jumped to our feet, running to the source of the gunshots.
We ran, outside bodies laid against the cement, crimson blood pooling around them.
