Saige's POV

"I'm not wearing a dress." I said to Asher, pacing around the big bedroom.

"We should probably try and fit in."

"No, Asher, I'm not wearing a fucking dress."

He raised his hands in surrender as he sat back on the bed, closing his eyes. "If I wasn't so damn hungry, I'd skip dinner and sleep."

I rolled my eyes as someone knocked on the door, revealing Bethany. "Dinner's ready."

Her eyes fell on me, looking me up and down. "No dress?"

"No," I said, pushing past her. "No dress."

We followed her down the hall, a few turns and we were in a large room with a fireplace in the corner, many people walking around, dressed in big dresses and suits, conversing.

I cleared my throat as Asher's hand found mine. Bethany showed up to our seats as someone laid a hand on my shoulder.

I instantly turned around, my fingers going for the knife in my belt. "Now, love, it's just me."

The king smiled down at me, a woman standing beside him with an even larger dress than the others, her face caked with makeup and a large crown sitting on her large hair.

"Hi, I'm Queen Melody," she smiled, a fake smile covering her lips. "I apologize I wasn't here when you arrived, I'm happy you have settled in."

I turned away as Asher mumbled an apology, sitting in the chairs Bethany showed us.

Many people came back, talking and touching me as I was becoming extremely uncomfortable and angry. I wasn't ready for this. I couldn't handle this.

Before dinner was served, I got up and left.

I couldn't take it anymore, their awful hands running over me, telling me useless things. There were people running around outside these walls killing people, the dead was walking the earth and they were playing dress up.

It made me absolutely sick. I hated it.

While everyone was at dinner, I took the chance to go outside and explore. The fresh air was nice.

Their walls were built very high, able to sustain bullets and bombs. They had guards on at all times, so they were scared that someone could try to overthrow.

They had an armory and a supply shop that I could buy things from. When they assign a job, you get compensated on your work. It was a shot at trying to be normal.

Being normal and ignoring the events happening on the other side of the wall were different.

Asher found me about half an hour later, worry lacing his voice. "I was scared you'd left."
