Justin’s POV

“Has she ever been like this before?” I asked Tate.

We were standing beside each other outside the cabin, looking out to sea. He went out for a cigarette and I followed soon after. I needed an explanation, I needed something to keep my mind from going crazy. I need to help Pia and I need to be strong for her, but she does not make it easy for me.

It’s been three days since her mom arrived and left. Pia and Jason have hardly spoke, and although Jason hasn’t said anything, we know he keeps wandering off to visit his mom. I can’t blame him, but if Pia finds out, he’s going to be sorry.

Then again, Pia probably does know, she’s probably figured it out. She’s not exactly an idiot let’s be honest.

Tate leaves it a few seconds, maybe figuring out what he’s going to say but eventually answers “I can’t remember. Jason said when she was with me, she was nothing like she is nowadays. So even if I had an answer it wouldn’t be any help. You’ll have to ask him”

I let out an aggravated sigh and continue smoking, whilst Tate throws his cigarette end in the water before turning around and going back inside.

It’s not that Pia’s angry, she’s not even upset. I don’t know what she’s going through right now because she’s acting like nothings ever happened. She’ll go through day to day things not giving anyone a clue as to how she’s feeling.

We’ll wake up, get dressed, and we’ll go out. She’s eating properly, she’s not drinking or smoking, she’s even booked an appointment back home for the first baby scan…Pia’s actually making plans for the future, that’s something she never does.

But as soon as you mention anything that happened three days ago, she’ll snap. She won’t shout, she won’t cry. But she’ll look at you, a certain look I’ve never seen before. But to say it scares the shit out of me is an understatement. Her eyes are dark and her pupils are dilated. Her fists will curl in to balls. But yet she won’t say a thing and instead she’ll turn around and walk away. Then she’ll carry on like nothing happened.

Doesn’t sound anything like Pia, right?

Exactly. That’s what scaring me.

I don’t know what’s going through her mind. Usually if she’s mad, she’ll flip out. She’ll beat someone up, she’ll scream and shout, no doubt kill someone depending on how angry she is. But no.

She gets angry but she lets it simmer down, and she’ll walk away from the situation.

And the worst thing about all of this? Is that this isn’t Pia at all. If this was an ordinary person, they’d think it was a good thing. Pia’s finally calming down, this will be good for her.

No.

She’s planning something, there’s something going through her mind, and I need to find out what it is before it’s too late.

Tate’s POV

I get where Justin’s coming from, this isn’t Pia. I’m worried too, but I don’t have a clue what’s going on. The others filled me in on what happened between Pia, Jason and their mom as I was too busy getting drunk trying to forget about this shit heap that is my life.

But still I don’t have a clue what’s going on with Pia.

Then again, I never do. Not since she’s come back from England, and especially not now.

Justin’s clearly going out of his mind, he knows her more than anyone. She probably tells him everything, but even the others know there’s something else going on. When Pia walks out of the room everyone will look at each other as if to say what the fuck is going on.
