It was a day later now. Evan and Connor sat skin to skin against the bark of an old crab apple tree. Evan's eyes flickered open to the sight of Connor's face only inches from his. He blinked, blushes coating each of their faces like snow covers frosted ground. Connor was the first to speak.

"Can I ask you something?" he whispered, backing away slowly.

"O-Okay," Evan stuttered, fingers trembling.

"How'd you break your arm?"

"I... fell. I fell out of a tree," he spoke, not really believing his own words. He wondered if Connor would call him out for lying straight to his face. But instead Connor just turned away, nodding in agreement. It was about a minute later when Evan spoke up.

"I lied."

"Hmm?" Connor raised his eyebrows as he turned to the shaking boy.

"I n-n-need to t-tell you something," he paused for a moment, closing his eyes and trying to catch his breath. "I d-didn't fall."

"You didn't what?" Connor squinted his eyes in confusion.

"W-When I fell out of the tree. I d-didn't fall," Connor was silent. Evan looked down, shaking his head. "Never mind forget it it doesn't ma-" Evan was cut off by two long arms pulling him into Connor's chest. He felt himself break and started to sob uncontrollably, balling up his fists from the overwhelming pain in his chest. Connor just held him there, listening to him repeat that he was sorry for crying. They sat like that for a while, both needing each other for different reasons but of equal amount.

"It's okay to cry," Connor says, hooking Evan's chin and bringing it up so that he could look into Evan's cobalt eyes. "Don't do it again. Please." Evan slowly nodded, laying on Connor's chest. They fell asleep to the sound of each other's heart beats against their own, drifting into a peaceful sleep they didn't want to wake up from.
