Connor's eyes sleepily peered open to find a strange white light coming from the other side of the room. He yawned and rose to his feet to find 15 missed calls from Evan. Immediately his heart dropped, reaching for the phone and dialing Evan's number as fast as his fingers would allow.

"The person who you are trying to reach is busy. Please leave a message after the BEEP."

"No... no no no no no no no," Connor spoke as he shoved his feet into a pair of dirty socks on the ground. The phone suddenly started vibrating and Connor frantically held it to his face.

"Connor?" a weak voice spoke from the other line.

"I'm coming Evan, don't fall asleep. I'm coming."

"I'm tired," he whispered drowsily. "And scared."

"I know Ev, I'm in the car now. What's your address?"

"1234 Sesame Street," Evan giggled tiredly. Connor rolled his eyes at the boy, speeding down the street.

"Evan, I'm gonna need you to tell me where you are right now, okay?"

"Oooooookay ummmmm 437 West Kimberly Lane."

Connor took a left turn, putting the phone on speaker. "What did you take?"

     "Sleeping pills," Evan spoke.

     "How many?"

     "All of them."

     "Evan... why?"

There was silence on the other end of the line.

"Ev?" Connor called. "Evan? You there?" He said, a little bit louder. "FUCK!" he yelled, struggling to keep control of the car as tired as he was. "Evan, I'm gonna need you to open your eyes for me, okay?"

"Mmhm," a small voice mumbled. Connor pulled into Evan's driveway, barging through the side door of the small house, looking through every doorway to see if Evan was behind it. Eventually he reached a room that was the color of the sky, with white bedsheets and a sleeping boy beneath them. His heart raced as he reached for Evan, yelling for Heidi to wake up and take them both to the hospital, knowing he couldn't drive in this state. He heard a pair of footsteps running through the small hallway into Evan's small room.

     "Who-"

"He-Evan-Sleeping Pills," he spoke in between sobs. Heidi placed a hand over her mouth, holding back tears and grabbing her keys. They all rushed into the car as Heidi started speeding away. "Evan... Oh god," he sniffled. "P-Please don't leave me, you're all I have."

"Mmm," Evan mumbled, curling into Connor's warm body as they pulled into the parking lot. Connor rushed into the reception room with Evan's increasingly limp body in his arms as doctors reached for him. The last of Evan's skin was removed from Connor's and he just collapsed, sobbing into the floor with a sound that broke the hearts of everyone around him. All he could see was the woman's face as he ran in with a dying boy in his arms. All he could feel was Evan's limp body, heavy and weighted and just hanging there. All he could hear was the beeping of heart rate monitors.

Connor was going insane.
