It was 3:00 pm and school was out twenty minutes ago but Kaylee didn't want to go home yet. She sat on a bench by herself reading a book. It was sunny out but the tree above her blocked the sun from getting in her eyes. It was perfect weather for book reading. She had a certain appreciation  for nature. It made her feel free.

It was peaceful and quiet until she heard loud obnoxious shouting coming from the hallway. She already knew who it was just by hearing their voices. A boy came running towards her with a grin on his face.

"Kales... run. Run!" He giggled and ran off with two other girls running close behind.

It wasn't until she saw her English teacher, Mrs. Gretchen, looking more angry than over coming her way, that she realized that she'd better start running.

"Crap." Kaylee said before she took off into a sprint.

"MIKAYLEE!" Mrs. Gretchen ran after her.

She finally caught up to the other three who decided to hide behind the gas station not too far from the school.

"What the hell did you do to her?" Kaylee was trying to catch her breath.

"Macie and I spray painted something on her car.." The boy giggled.

"It said 'wicked witch of the west' and it was greatest decision I ever made." A girl, whose name was Macie, smiled.

"And I was the lookout." The other girl said.

"Not a very good one. Thanks to you, Penny, we got caught." The boy crossed his arms.

"Oh shut up, Tom!" Penny made a face at him.

"I just came to the realization that we might get expelled for that.." Tom sat on the floor, expressionless.

"What I wanna know is why Mrs. Gretchen went after me too.. She chased me and started yelling my name." Kaylee was worried.

"Thats because your now part of our clique." Tom smiled.

"Your.. clique?"

"Yeah! You know like our gang, our group."

"Guys, I know what a clique is." Kaylee said rolling her eyes, and then smiled wide, "I love it!"

"So.. that part about getting suspended from school just because you're part of our clique doesnt bother you at all?" Penny questioned.

"Nope." She didn't hesitate to say.

"I love this chick! Where have you been all my life?!" Penny grabbed Kaylee into a hug.

For once in her life, Kaylee was happy. She thought having friends was great but being part of a clique? Hell yeah! She finally felt accepted, like she belonged somewhere. She could care less if she got suspended, her dad was going to hit her regardless. At least now she could know she actually did something wrong to earn her beating rather than getting it for no apparent reason.

Kaylee, Tom, Penny, and Macie linked arms with each other and made their way to the little ice cream shoppe down the street. They spent the next two hours stuffing their faces with ice cream and laughing. I could get used to this, Kaylee thought to herself, smiling.

This chapter was meant to be short and light hearted. I'm trying to build up her character. She can't always be depressed and worried about what her dad thinks. (: ~AnniegoesMeow
