When Kaylee stood in front the front door of the house, she was terrified that her dad would be waiting there for her. She turned the knob and nervously opened it only to find Jennifer sipping coffee on the couch.
"Mikaylee, its past midnight, where have you been?"
"I was out.. with my friends.." She didn't know how to respond.
"Come, sit next to me. I want to talk." Jennifer patted the seat next to her.
Kaylee made her way over and sat down."I don't wanna be the bad guy, okay? I wont tell your dad about this or about your incident at school earlier today." She patted her on the back.
"Can I ask why you aren't going to tell him?" She faced Jennifer.
"I don't wanna get off on a bad start with you.. We're going to be a family pretty soon, Mikaylee. I don't want my new daughter to hate me. Besides, Mrs. Gretchen was my English teacher when I was in high school. Let me just say, she so deserved to get her car spray painted like that." She laughed.
"Thank you so much!" Kaylee jumped up and hugged her, "Your the greatest person ever right now."
"Stop it." Jennifer smiled wide, flattered, "And please don't get yourself into more trouble at school, no drugs and if you've got a boyfriend, no sex. Got it?"
"Got it." Kaylee smiled at her and ran off to the loft.
When Kaylee walked into the bedroom she finds Jasmine sleeping soundly. She grabbed the blanket from the floor and covered Jasmine with it. She sighed and turned off the tv. She couldn't sleep so she decided to clean. First, she picked up the dirty laundry from the floor and then swept the floor. She noticed that the phone book was opened and a bunch of printed out pages of random news articles lined up on the computer desk. She opened the laptop and saw more and more news articles on 16 different tabs. She clicked on one of them that said "Cody Robinson missing."
Kaylee quickly exited out of all the tabs and shut down the laptop. She looked toward her sleeping sister in anger. She grabbed the papers and ripped them up, putting them into the trash can. She was infuriated. Hasn't she learned her lesson? Dad's gonna literally kill her if he finds out that she's still looking. She thought, not able to calm herself down.
She laid down and stared at the wall, tossing and turning until she finally fell asleep.
