Jasmine waited outside of Logan's house hiding behind a fat tree waiting for Logan to give the signal. She and Logan were going to ditch half the school day to look for Cody. She watched as Tom put his back pack on a walked off to school. She sighed in relief because he didn't see her. Logan came out of the house and signaled for her to come in. She sat down on the couch next him obviously upset about something.
"What's wrong?" He asked.
"My sister didn't come home last night. She's so stupid, dad was pissed. He took it out on me.." She let out a sigh and rested her head in her hands.
"She's going through a phase, let her handle it." He tried to cover up the fact that Kaylee had slept over here last night and left really early in the morning.
"Yeah I get it but why should I be the one taking the hits aimed at her? It's so unfair." She crossed her arms. She and Kaylee used to always take hits for each other but things have really gotten weird between them lately.
"I would take the hit for someone I loved.." The words he didn't want to say came out.
"Your talking about her, aren't you?" She said pointing to a framed picture of his girlfriend on the counter.
"Yeah." He looked down at his feet, not too shocked about her asking him.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked. We can talk about something else."
"No, no, no. It's totally okay. Its been a year already, its time for me to stop hiding under this layer of fear and sadness." He took a breath. "She was in a plane crash. She survived but she came out with so many problems. Her lungs no longer worked. It was like two popped balloons. She had to be hooked up to a machine that brought oxygen to her body 24/7 but eventually that stopped working and she basically suffocated the night she died."
"I'm so sorry." She looked towards him sympathetically.
"Nah, It's alright. I've gotta move onto the next chapter of my life." He simply shrugged it off.
"Good for you." She couldn't help it, she leaned over and hugged him. She didn't know what else to do or say next so she stood quietly.
"Okay, enough of this. Lets go find your brother." He ended the silence.
The pair got into the car and turned on the gas. They were headed to an address they found while digging through an old box that Cody left behind. There was 2 different addresses on a piece of paper, he had to be at one of them.
They drove for an hour before arriving to the address. It was odd because there wasn't really anything there but an abandoned coca cola factory. Jasmine got a bad feeling about it but knew she had to check it out. She took the honor of opening the rusty back door. It made a screech louder than a dying whale. She stepped in, walked up a flight of stairs and found herself in a completely empty warehouse full of nothing but staircases and rusty chairs.
"Jeez, it smells like rotting flesh in here." Logan pinched his nose so he didn't have to smell the horrendous stench.
"Shh, get down!" She threw herself to the metal floor, pulling him down with her.
The front door of the factory opened and 10 gangsters walked in carrying guns. Jon came in behind them and closed the door. They pulled out a table and 11 chairs to sit down. Once everybody was seated the gangsters put their weapons down.
"Have any of you found the damn boy yet?" A big scary gangster who seemed to be their leader asked.
"Naw, dawg. He's nowhere to be found." One of the younger looking gangsters spoke up.
