Chapter 16: The Former Coward's Fight

Third Person's P.O.V

Recap:

"Waaah! Mizushima's torrent eradicates the paper wall which we all thought was indestructible!" commented Present Mic and the clamor that was induced by the entertained onlookers joined after, "What a surprising turn of events!"

"Oh no!" yelled Uraraka in concern.

"This is looking pretty bad for Terada," remarked Iida, "If her paper wall can be destroyed just like that, then how is she going to protect herself from the torrent?"

Bakugou's scowl deepened. He had known Saki for more than eight years so it wouldn't be a shock to learn that he also knew what was going on inside Saki's mind sometimes. And right now, he could easily tell – from this situation and Saki's facial expression– of what that girl was thinking at the moment.

Everyone, except the ash blond boy, was utterly oblivious to the fact that Saki was starting to feel the urge to give up right then and there. Her determination was obliterated just like that.

Nearly every onlooker in the stadium was watching the current match with bated breath. The scenario that just transpired before their eyes proved that this fight could be pretty much one-sided, and they felt pity for the contender who was clearly on the losing side.

Terada Saki, the girl who was blessed with paper manipulation quirk, was gawking openly in profound shock at her opponent who went by the name of Mizushima Hideji, the boy who was born with water quirk. The latter merely stared at her with a completely straight face, making it nearly impossible to identify what he was feeling.

Mizushima Hideji was a tall boy who had conspicuous blue hair and a pair of vacant black eyes. Mostly everyone in his life only saw him sporting an expressionless countenance, and on top of that, he was also a quiet and an unapproachable person. It may not seem existent at first, but if one looked closely at him, they would slowly realize that he had fat tummy underneath his P.E. uniform. He was not a chubby person in general, but he obtained the flabby belly due to his quirk. Another important information regarding him was that he came from Class 1-B.

"It looks like he doesn't want to go easy on Terada too..." Kendo Itsuka, one of the blue-haired boy's classmates, remarked with her arms crossed over her chest.

"Why would he?" interjected Monoma Neito, "He is doing a fantastic job there by crushing those Class 1-A guys' spirits."

Kendo could only roll her eyes at his mild mockery, "I'm sure that's not what Mizushima's intention is."

Nearly every pair of eyes witnessed as Saki hung her head low. They could not get a good look at her face, but that was partially unnecessary for they already got the drift of what she was feeling at the moment – ashamed, anxious, and scared.

"I feel sorry for that girl..."

"This is basically an unfair fight."

"So what are you going to do? Are you going to interfere in this match just because this is unfair?"

"She must be feeling quite ashamed."

Todoroki's scowl deepened as he fixed his heterochromatic orbs on Saki. He had to admit that he, too, thought that Saki's paper wall was nearly indestructible. This belief was one of the primary reasons why he invited her to join his team during their cavalry battle. She was the first person he approached with the intention to recruit her. Just like he expected, her paper wall helped his team quite a lot.
