Chapter 17: Enter the Puppet Master

   It was the day that many in the 15th Armored Infantry Core have been waiting for. Today was the day that Kaine would die and his army crushed under the might of the Crimson Legion. To the soldiers under Alan's command, it was a day that they would get to avenge the deaths of their fallen comrades and friends. For Alan, this day marked the day he'll repay Kaine and his second-in-command for his defeat back in Michigan.

Alan looked at his troops as he finished adding two combat knifes to his belt. He made a silent vow that all three hundred of them would come back home without a single scratch on them. He started walking to the truck near their staging area and climbed onto the back before facing his troops. One by one his loyal soldiers turn to look at him. He cleared his throat and said, "Today is the day we get to avenge those that have fallen to Kaine's vile army. This is the moment that you've all been trained for, so I expect that all of you will make it back to your loved ones. I only ask of you is to fight until your last breath and leave no enemy standing. Immortality is yours this day, so take it!" Alan jumped down as his troops erupted into war cries and got onto his motorcycle as his men mounted up.

Like lightening, they took off towards Georgia's border as ten A10 Thunderbolts raked Kaine's defensive lines with rockets and bullets. Within minutes Alan's company, along with the 21st and 22nd Infantry Core, were across the border. While the other two companies broke off for their objectives, Alan and his company blazed their way to Atlanta. Just as they got within a mile of Atlanta, 20 Vertibirds took off and headed straight towards them. Even from where he was at, Alan could see the Enclave symbol on the side of the Vertibirds as clear as day.

Alan watched as all 20 enemy Vertibirds fired their rockets. Most of the rockets hit the ground around them, but one got lucky and was heading towards Alan. Alan noticed that one of the Vertibirds was very low and with quick thinking, jumped off his motorcycle just before it was hit. The explosion it caused sent him flying upwards towards the Vertibird. Alan pulled out both Damnation and Liberty before unloading into the cockpit, killing the pilot and sending the Vertibird straight toward the ground. Alan landed on top of the Vertibird and ran along top of it before leaping off just seconds before it crashed, killing all of the poor souls inside. An APC pulled up next to Alan and he quickly climbed on top of it before it took off towards Atlanta.

Just before the remaining Vertibirds could swing around for another attack run, three A10's streaked through, shooting down five and forcing the rest to scatter before the remaining A10s could streak in. Alan smiled as he finished reloading both Damnation and Liberty before putting them away as he took out Salvation. Once he was within range of Kaine's forces in their crude defensive position, Alan unloaded Salvation with deadly aim. His AP rounds struck home and all Super Mutants holding a missal launcher fell dead with holes in their heads.

Alan's company tore through Kaine's defensive line like a hot knife through butter. Super Mutants fell left and right as the 15th Armored Infantry Core tore through the city on their way to the capital building, which Kaine had turned into a fortress. Alan and a hundred soldiers surrounded Kaine's fortress as the remaining troops secured the rest of Atlanta. Nothing happened as if the world had stood still and as if a switch had been flicked, gun fire erupted from both sides. Alan and his team lead the charge as fifty troops surged forward towards the capital building. The Super Mutants tried to hold their defensive line, but soon broke as grenades landed at their feet. Alan and Chris leaped through the resulting smoke and those left standing soon followed their dead kin on the ground.

Alan put up Salvation and drew out his pistols as he kicked the doors in. He calmly walked in and unloading both guns as he walked towards the stairs. He reloaded quickly and along with his team, turned out of the stairwell and fired upon the Super Mutants waiting to ambush them. They quickly made their way to the mayor's office with Alan in the lead. Just as they were about to turn the corner into the hallway leading to the mayor's office, Alan was forced to roll under a swing of a super sledge. Alan looked up to see Kaine's second-in-command before having to roll out of the way of an overhead strike. He quickly stood up and unloaded both guns into the Super Mutant's face, ripping it's face to shreds with hollow point rounds.

Alan put up both pistols and with his foot, he kicked up the super sledge into his hand. They quickly made their way to the mayor's office before kicking the doors in. As Alan walked through the dust cloud they caused, he saw Kaine sitting on his porcelain throne with four Enclave troops as bodyguards. Alan growled and said, "I should have known the Enclave was behind this the whole time. After all, you are too stupid to lead such effective attacks." Kaine growled in anger and sent his bodyguards to attack.

Alan ran forward and threw the super sledge at the nearest Enclave soldier, breaking their chest plate and sending a broken rib into their heart. He pulled out his combat knifes as Chris ran past and engage the Enclave soldier with a Ripper. Justin and Sora took on the Enclave with a flamer while Emily sent an AP round through the remaining Enclave's helmet.

Kaine growled in rage and charged at Alan with his bumper-sword ready. He swung at him, but Alan simply ducked under it and stabbed him in the arm. Kaine screamed in pain and rage as Alan brutally ripped it out and curb stomped his kneecap, causing it to shatter into hundreds of pieces. Kaine fall on one knee before swinging his bumper-sword at Alan. Alan flipped over Kaine and as he landed, he spun on his heels and slammed his knifes into Kaine's tendons, rendering Kaine's arms useless. Alan calmly picked up Kaine's bumper-sword and said, "I've waited too long to do this, Kaine. This is for the all the good men and women you've killed." With that said, Alan lifted up the bumper-sword before bringing it down and beheading Kaine in a shower of blood. Alan then dropped the sword and picked up Kaine's head before going outside. Once outside, he lifted Kaine's head up for all to see and earning cheers among his soldiers. Just as Alan lowered the head, reports came over the radio that Georgia was completely under Crimson Legion control.
