The month off from the front lines were over and Alan now stood at his desk. He was looking through files and reports from recent events. It would seem that two vaults still had their occupants. The last two needed to be cleared of monsters. He picked up the last report and smiled. Project Superbird was coming along swimmingly. With the help of robots, the project has been pushed ahead of schedule and was due to be completed by the time Michigan was reclaimed. He put the file down and quietly left the room.
Alan walked out of the factory and stopped in front of his team. He looked at each member before saying, "Our mission is to take Vault 71 from its ghoulified occupants. Any left of sound mind is not to be harmed. Let's move out team!" At that, he lead his team into a Vertibird and took a short flight to the vault. The sight that awaited them was not one they were expecting. A skeleton was tied to a cross outside the half closed vault. The Chinese had sabotaged the Vault's door and it only half closed. The skeleton showed how much the rest of the occupants liked that fact.
Alan broke the team into twos, leaving himself stuck by himself. Emily and Rin took the west side while Chris and Justin took the east. He, himself, was to check the main floor and Overseer's room. He stalked the halls with Damnation and Oblivion out, killing any ghouls that were feral. The distant gunshots told him that most of the occupants were in deed feral. He swiftly cleared the main floor and headed for the Overseer's room. He walked in and found ten guns pointed at him. Ten ghouls stood within cover and wore the US Ranger armor. He slowly put his weapons away and put his hands up while saying, "I am Alan Smith, commander of the 15th Armored Infantry Core of the Crimson Legion. I come from Vault 66 and have already retaken the state of Indiana. We seek to rebuild and retake all states of the United States of America." One by one, the guns were lowered and one ghoul stepped forward. He held his hand out and said, "I am Sergeant Grant of the old American Ranger division." Alan shook Grant's hand and said, "How would you like to join the Crimson Legion and start the new Ranger Division?" Grant smiled and nodded his head.
The trip back to the base was used to fill the Rangers in on all that has happened in the last few years. The Rangers were a little shocked at the news, but quickly shook it off. They were fully debriefed after the Vertibird touched down and were given their mission to rebuild the Ranger Division. Alan dismissed his team and went to his room. He read the reports on the other squads missions and smiled at each success. He reached down and scratched Sora's head, earning him a wagging tail. He scooted his chair back and waited for Emily to sit on his lap like she always does. He smiled and knew that tonight was going to be a great night.
After a good night's sleep, Alan was once again at his desk looking over reports. Recon into the Michigan area showed that the area didn't have any major threats besides a few pockets of super mutants. It was still going to be a tough task that will take a month to secure the state. He knew how tough super mutants are and with their numbers ranging in the hundreds, it was going to be one hell of a battle. His army was to spearhead the push into Michigan and take an old fort. they were to hold out there until further orders. they would have no armored and light air support to get the job done. It was a tough task, but nothing was as tough as the 15th Armored Infantry Core.
He spent the remaining days making sure his men had enough supplies to last the whole mission. He trained his men into the ground and dragged them through the mud. He was making damn sure his men were going to bring their A game to this mission. He gave the remaining few days off for his men so that they could rest. Emily, however, used that period of time to get rid of her limp. The memory of how she got that limp always bring a smile to her face.
