Y'all know PUBG, right? The most redefining Battle Royale game in all time. Sales and reception wise, this wept the floor from H1Z1, DayZ, Arma and more games before it's release. PUBG is also a streamers paradise. With it being the top game for nearly a week, it's still a hot topic even in October.
Now, with a game this freaking popular, it's a given that there will be rip offs and copies of it. And one small, undermined game called Fortnite decided to give players a new Battle Royale mode. Which was very similar to PUBG.
100 Players Max
Last Man Standing Wins
Scavenge for Resources
Play Area Progressively Gets Smaller As It Goes On
Custom Weapons
Full-Scale Map
The only real differences are graphics, (Which look like they were used by the Smite Engine) and the fact that you can build stuff and whack stuff with your axe which can somehow break containers and trucks.
So the makers of PUBG, Bluehole made a article stating their opinion on the mode, saying stuff like:
"We've had an ongoing relationship with Epic Games throughout PUBG'S development as they are the creators of UE4, the engine we licensed for the game. After listening to the growing feedback from our community and reviewing the gameplay for ourselves, we are concerned that Fortnite may be replicating the experience for which PUBG is known."
Listen up, devs, just because you redefine a sub-genre and create the greatest one doesn't mean you then own that genre. Like it or not, PUBG isn't the only Battle Royale game out on the market. Heck, I can go buy H1Z1 and play it's Battle Royale mode, which released before yours!
I'm not saying to not be displeased, any development team would be. The games are very in sync with one another. Epic clearly brought a fair amount of aspects from PUBG. But you shouldn't slag off the company that you made PUBG with.
They can stop you from using their engine completely, which translates to no more future PUBG content. Which the community and Brendan Greene would bawl at.
