The World Seemed To Burn

I THOUGHT I PUBLISHED THIS YESTERDAY, BUT NOPE. SO PLEASE PRETEND IT'S STILL HALLOWEEN. :')

I've been dragging November on way too long. It's over. There are a few things we're anticipating, and I'm trapping us in this one area. So even though most of the previous parts would be well concluded with us knowing what happened the following day, most of them require me to expand even further. So I'm skipping next mornings, and going straight into long-term affect.

This creates some suspense and plunges a slow story further into its plot. Which badly needs to move along.

So, enjoy. Please vote. Every one of those is appreciated.

J. Laurens' POV

"He can be a bit of an asshole,"  I shrugged.

"I'll say," Alex groaned. "It's too much." He folded his padded arms and pouted into his scarf.

"Why are you so interested in him all of a sudden?" I teased.

"I'm not," he humphed. "He just—attacked me." I laughed at him as we walked down the frosted sidewalk. I could puffs of his breath in the cold evening air. The way his cheeks became redder the more frost there was, made me smile.

"You're adorable when you're flustered," I commented and poked his frozen red cheek.

"I hate that guy," Alex pouted. "The very opposite of what you were implying."

"I wasn't implying anything," I shrugged and picked up my pace.

"Sure." I heard his sarcastic response from behind me and went up the porch steps. I turned to face him as he neared the bottom.

"You're just not allowed to have crushes," I smirked at him. Alex blinked before attempting a sly comeback.

"Not even on you?" Ooh, that was good. I pretended to think while he climbed up the stairs.

"That's more than just a crush," I replied at last. Alex's frozen face went completely red and he tilted his face away from me.

"So cocky sometimes," he muttered. I turned his chin to face me and raised an eyebrow. Alex removed his scarf from his face, allowing me to go in for a goodbye kiss. (I'LL EXPLAIN LATER)

"Sorry again we have to keep this secret," I apologized afterwards. " I'm openly gay, it's just..."

"Henry?"

"Yeah... If we actually tell people, he might find out and find this place... And who knows what he'll do?" Henry actually had encountered Junior just a few days prior at the Schuylers' place. He was working on his campaign posters when Henry had knocked on the door. Mr. and Mrs. Schuyler had gone out, so Eliza opened it and for some goddamn reason, she let him in. Willingly. Peggy said she hid Junior and the twins as soon as she saw who was at the door, but  Henry just climbed up the stairs straight to Eliza's room with her.

After an hour or so, screams could be heard through the house. Henry had somehow found Junior, and was trying to tie him up and take him back. Sickening. Luckily, Angelica came in and beat Henry's ass before calling the cops. But in a blink of an eye, he was gone.

Junior returned home with bruises on his neck, wrists, and shoulders. Martha (Washington) attempted to remove them. They had gotten so much better, but became permanent. If Henry was capable of hurting us even when we're at friends' houses, the I couldn't risk him actually finding out where we lived.
