Blood Diamonds: Chapter 23
~Charnae P.O.V.~
When they finally let the students roam around the school, everyone went searching for either Joel or Travie but didn't find them.
I grew with nothing but anxiety and worry and I kept trying to call to get a hold of Joel but his phone would only ring and go straight to voicemail.
"Which students were dispatched?" I heard one of the teachers ask another teacher.
"Travie King and Joel Corvo is all I know and that they were both sent to the Memorial Hospital." I didn't bother to hear anymore. I just decided to leave and go straight to the hospital.
I grabbed my keys out of my bag and ran out the main hall doors to the student parking lot. I saw my car and quickly sped off heading directly for the hospital.

"Good morning Miss, How may I help you?" The nurse at the front said with a reassuring smile to match her calm composure.
"Good morning, I'm looking for Joel Corvo?" She nodded her head and started searching through the computer as I waited impatiently.
"Alright he's in room 13B. So you'll be going down the left most hallway and his door will be on the left." She said as she pointed in the direction. I nodded my head and walked down to that hall like she said. I searched till I found 13B and gently knocked on the door before opening it to take a peek.
"Come in." He said. I opened the door and slid in. I saw him laying there on the bed with a smile on his face. "Aw you came down here, why?"
"We all heard the gunshot between you and Travie so I came down here. Are you okay?" I walked up to his bedside and didn't see any kind of IV's or bandages on him.
"Oh the gunshot huh? He fired but missed and the school immediately called ambulance without even understanding the scene. Both of us are fine but the hospital wanted to check to make sure there were no gunshot wounds." He motioned for me to give him a hug and I wrapped my arms around him in a warm embrace with nothing but relief on my mind that no one was hurt.
"Thank God you're okay." I whispered in his ear.
"You don't ever have to worry about me." He said as he kissed my forehead.
"How long do you have to stay here?"
"Just another hour or so. They want to make sure I really am fine, no kind of shock or anything." He said with a small laugh. "This is nothing compared to busting traps back home."
"I don't know what I would have done if you were actually shot." I could never settle with the thought of him being shot. There was just no way. "Is Travie still here too?"
"Don't think about that and yeah he should still be here too." He pulled me down onto the bed with him and held me there.
"Why didn't you shoot back at him?"
"I may kill but that's not what I instinctually do. Taking away life is a terrible thing so I try to avoid it as much as possible. Travie isn't even worth as much as half a bullet. If I felt like I was in real danger, I would have just shot him first but I was fine." He rubbed my arm slowly which nearly put me to sleep just by how relaxing that was.
"That's the thing I worry about with you being in a gang. The fact that any day I could be told you're pronounced dead-"
"Shh, Charnae don't think like that. You'll never get a phone call like that, I promise you that."
