"Whoa!!!! Jesus..... But- how?"
"Oh come on, Tim, you're a CSI and surely know where the kids take from..."
"Eeerr...of course..but..."
"Ok. Let's do it like that- I'll go and do some shopping for ya as the fridge is almost empty, and you need to eat, Courtney. And first of all- you need to feed your child. Have you thought about that??"
She nodded. Head down and tears falling down quietly. Calleigh felt guilty " sorry... I know it's hard for you... Speedle... I'm leaving you with her for 30 minutes. You two must surely talk. Walk me to the door."
He followed her downstairs. In silence.
"Now. Make her some hot tea. She also needs a bath, her beautiful hair needs cleaning, and not a shower- it's probably hard to stand up for a while. Talk to her and calm her down. She's in bad condition. "
"Cal... Is it..."
"Yes, dumb. It is yours. I also thought you can count... So count the weeks."
"But we've always used precautions... Except..."
"Except this one time, right? At Alexx'."
"Yeah. "
"There you have it. Whenever you like it or not, she's gonna have it as she's about 12 weeks along. If you don't want it, don't tell her. But also don't give her any hope for more than you can give. The most important is to comfort her now. It's a miracle she didn't miscarried it... Go now."
She left and he started climbing up the stairs. At the first floor his steps became quicker. When he entered, sat by her and asked.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"Because you didn't want any kids. And it broke between us. I left you because I thought you won't have time for me. When I realized I'm with child, I wanted to call you first. But then I thought that if you didn't want a baby then, when we were together, why would you like to have it when we fell apart? This ...stupid way?"
He left for the bathroom. When he came he told her-" the bath is ready. Let's go." Took her hand and led her to the bathroom. Started to take off her clothes. Gee ...she was so thin... Only the bump was something more, not too big, but visible- maybe because she was so skinny. She noticed him looking at it.
"Awful, isn't it?"
He looked at her surprised "why are you saying that? A normal baby bump. Just like any other. It's bit bigger cause you're skinny".
She nodded and sat in the tub.
"Warm enough?"
"Yes...nice".
"I'll help you to wash your hair, ok?"
Took the shampoo and after wetting it, started washing her hair gently. It was like a knot- hard to separate and clean. When he did that finally, he watered them with shower. Then let her wash herself, watching her closely.
Then she just let herself relax for a while, when he went to bring her some clean clothes.
"Have you been to the doctor's regularly? Is everything ok?"
"I've been...twice".
"Only twice?? Why?"
"Well, I thought that maybe.."
"...you miscarry it?" He asked.
"That's why you stopped eating?"
She nodded, crying. "Don't be mad, Tim."
He wasnt angry, just sad. "Did you think of abortion?"
"Yes. Few times. But just couldn't do it. Not because of religion or something, but because...it was like having a part of you.... A part you didn't want."
"Oh come on, Court. You didn't give me the chance to react. "
"What would you say, huh??? That's great Courtney, I've always dreamt about it???" she shouted.
"Whoa! Stop!! No. I wouldn't say that. Probably you wouldn't hear much enthusiasm, but I'd try to support you in any decision you'd make. Cause you've made it , right?"
"Yeah. I wanted it to disappear. But it's so lively.. Desperate to survive" she smiled and touched the belly.
He felt something strange watching that scene. Like... Pride.
Didn't know why.
"Tim? What do you think? Are you angry?"
"I'm confused. I know it's my fault- I didn't use a precaution this once. So it's my fault. I will take responsibility, of course. I'm not a child".
"I'm not talking about the responsibility...I'm talking about you and me."
"There's no you and me, Courtney. You made it clear for me. It hurt me badly. I thought we're gonna start anew. And now...."
"...it's too late?"
"I don't know. The baby is on the way. I'm gonna be the father, so I must think of the future. I need to think it over. The first thing is to take care of you and the child. We need to check if it's ok. You need to be fed and taken care of. I'm taking you to Miami. Call your doctor and we'll ask if you can fly ok? Here is the phone.Call him. I'm gonna make you something to eat. And from now on- we're gonna act like adults. I'm forty and you're around 30...not the kids anymore. Whatever happens now- for us - we may not stay the couple, but we will be parents. That makes us act together, you understand?"
She nodded and he left.
Heard her talking to some doctor Brown. Making a sandwich out of nothing- nothing was in the fridge except for few tomatoes and cheese. He had to sit down- he realized what he's just said- he's gonna be the father. He was scared like hell. Not exactly his dream came true. They were not engaged anymore, and they didn't live together... He even stopped planning his future with her, overcame the feeling.
But somewhere inside he felt warmth when he saw her entering the bath, when he was washing her beautiful hair.... And felt strange about the little thing conceived unwantedly. His child. He decided to leave these thoughts for now and focus on acting. Helped her to wear t-shirt and leggings, and gave her a hot, plush robe. Sat her on the couch and ordered to eat - what she did automatically.
He took the hairbrush and started combing the hair. It was hard at the beginning, but got easily done. He smelled her shampoo-he has always liked it- delicate, flowery scent. He felt an urge to kiss her neck, but was afraid it would freak her out.
Instead he kissed her head and went to open the door for Calleigh.
"Is it ok? " She whispered?
"Yeah."
Cal went to the kitchen and he asked- "did you call, Court?"
"Yeah. He can see me in the evening. I'll take a bus"
"I'm coming with you. After all- it is my baby too". She nodded.
Calleigh smiled to herself in the kitchen.
