"How come you were there?"
"She...wanted to sit on the beach for a while. The water was so warm that she went into it. Then we both came out. She felt tired so I went to get a car. Coming back I saw her fallin...Oh god... Alexx...what am I gonna do?"
"Everything's fine babe. Don't worry. I hope you will both feel better soon." When they arrived Alexx noticed paleness of his face. She grabbed his hand and took him to ER.
"Excuse me..I'm dr Woods. This man here has probably some problems with his heart, can you check on him?"
"Can't you, dr Woods? " The tired nurse asked her.
"I'm not on duty..."
"Ask dr Christensen then. He's inside. "Alexx nodded and pushed Speed into the examination room.
"Hi dr Christensen. This guy's wife in in ICU, 36 weeks along. He's got heart problems and cannot think clearly. Can you please check on him?"
"Dr Woods! Nice to see you again.
Yes..sit down."
"But Alexx...Courtney..."
"I'll find out ok? And be back soon. Wait here. "
She left and ran to the ICU.
"HELLO. My daughter in law was rushed here. Courtney Speedle."
"Pregnant?"
"Yes."
"This is dr Jones he'll tell you something more,ok?"
Alexx turned to a tall guy- "well, will ya?"
"Yes... As we supposed it was caused by invalid blood pressure. It's still either too high or too low. So we have to be careful. "
"How is she?"
"After sedatives as she became very anxious. Were trying to stabilize it but it's really hard." "Will she be ok?"
"We'll see. I personally guess you're can become granma before sunrise."
"Really? But it's too early."
"The baby is quite big and the lungs look fully developped. So it can be as good as in two weeks. We also consider stopping it unless the waters break. Where's the father?"
"In ER. Minor heart problems. Be here soon. Can I see her?"
"Yes. But briefly and remember she's still slow after sedatives."
"Thanks." Alexx entered the room. courtney was lying on the bed, pale as Tim
"Baby?" She touched her hand. "How are you?"
"Hi...where's Tim?"
"He's filling the forms" Alexx lied smoothly.
"Alexx... Promise me sth. I signed DNR. If anything happens, save the baby first. "
"Sugar, there's nothing wrong. You're gonna be parents little earlier, that's all..."
"Yeah... Yeah. Remember ok? That's my will. Whatever Tim says- baby first. Promise me Alexx. Promise!!"
"I promise". She smiled and decided to see Tim at once.
She found him in the corridor, looking straight onto the floor.
"Hi baby...do you wanna see her?"
"Yeah. Is she ok?"
"Yeah. Are you?"
"Sure. Healthy as a fish. The doc said she's gonna give birth tonight."
"That's not sure yet. But yes- we have to consider it as well".
"Isn't that too early?"
"Yeah...a bit..." he saw Courtney lying in bed and closed the door behind him. "Tim..are you ok?"
"I'm fine. I...I can't lose you baby."
"You won't. They say I'm getting better. I...I called Alex. He's coming here. "
"Can he be of any help? Or just wants to see you?"
"Both I guess. I'd love to be home now. You should go home Tim. Youre so tired. I know you were sleeping on the armchair yesterday. Go home, take a shower and have a nap. "
"I won't leave you."
"I will need you to be calm and relaxed when the time comes. I promise I'm gonna call. You know it's never fast with the first."
"I do.Then alright."
"take some sports clothes with you to wear during labour,ok?"
"I will. Love ya." He kissed her forehead and left. Alexx was waiting outside. "Im taking you home. My home. Someone needs to take care of you if you want take care of her and the baby. Don't even try to protest- you're coming with me."
After a supper he fell on the bed tired as never. He fell asleep in two minutes.
"What did you give him Alexx?" Jeffrey asked watching Speed sleeping.
"A sleeping pill."
"Really strong one I see."
"Yeah. I had to do it. Because I need to do something he would never agree for". She took out an empty syringe. Then bent up his sleeve and took a blood sample, looking closely ant his forearms.
He didn't even move.
"Will you tell me why?" Jeff sat next to her with a coffee.
"Can you keep your mouth shut?"
"Yes I can. As always. So?"
"So...he had problem with drugs, few months ago. He wasn't sacked because I demanded a sample of urine every single day and he was clean. But now he stopped eating, got skinny again and has lotta personal problems. I'm afraid it can be bad again. And I'm not his boss anymore so I cannot ask him for that anymore. I'd have to tell Horatio."
"What kind of drug was it? "
"Meth. A  prescribed pill, so clean one. But still."
"I know. You're worried hon, aren't you?"
"Yeah. Also the situation with Courtney isn't clear. She's got not only the blood pressure problems, but also high level of white blood cells. We don't know why. They conduct researches, and Tim doesn't know."
"Why?"
"Courtney didn't allow. Don't ask me why...they both act strange. I suppose she's scared for the baby, and I wanna know what's wrong with him. Gotta go- be back soon. And- not a word".
Jeff took a sip and looked at sleeping Speed thinking about his actions. Then he left.
"So, doctor, anything else"?
"No Mrs Speedle. It's ok. Looks like the blood pressure is ok so we'll focus on the baby. Baby looks ok but we must be ready to deliver if anything goes wrong. I want you to stay, to have you monitored. The high level of leukocytes shows you're overgoing a kind of infection and we need to check what it is and start treatment."
"Is it dangerous for my baby?"
"No. Not now as we apparently see. Are you gonna deliver with your husband being present?"
"Yes."
"Well...is he ok? He doesn't look too good. "
"He's got some heart problems."
"Oh...daddies with heart problems... They are bit problematic... They use to faint when they see some blood f.e."
"My husband won't, be sure."
"Oh yeah? Why is that?"
"He's a CSI. He saw much worse things than the blood sample"
"Oh.. I guess so. Meanwhile- he's here to see you."
"Ok thank you. "
The doc left and  Tim entered. Kissed her forehead and asked "how are you?"
"Good. Ava stays inside. For now".
"Good. I was worried about you two. "
"I know. How are you?"
"Tired. Sleepy. I'm staying at Alexx' now. I've been sleeping for many hours and still need some. Do you need sth?"
"Coffee."
"I know, but you cannot drink it with your blood pressure problems. I prom...." The phone rang in Speed's pocket. He open it up "yeah? ...At hospital... Yeah...when? ... But...ok. Be there."
"Sorry. That was Alexx. She wants to see me now. Gotta go. But be here as soon as possible." She nodded. He kissed her and left.
