The lunch bell rang. I picked up my stuff and hightailed it outta there and to my locker.
Middle school was a horrible place. Preps, jocks, nerds, goths geeks, then their was me. Small and insignificant onley one person ever noticed me, even though I was the lowest on the food chain. It didn't help that I had skipped a grade and was the youngest kid in my grade.
Absorbed in my thoughts I didn't notice the foot untill it was to late.
"Gah!" I fell to the floor, papers going everywhere.
"Aww, someone took a tumble." I looked up to see no one other than, Nancy Bobofit.
Nancy thinks she rules Yancy Academy. She has curly red hair and orange freckles and don't get me started on her teeth. Their majorly, utterly crooked. Not one was strait.
I picked up my stuff, and Nancy moved on to her next victim, Grover Underwood.
Grover looked like he had been held back a couple years due to his facial hair and acne.
She walked up and bumped his shoulder, sending him sprawling.
"Hey!" Grover yelped. Nancy looked back and flashed a Loser sign at him.
"Nancy, what is your problem!" I yelled, then cringed. Gosh what have I gotten into.
"Look, stay out of my business Celoser." She barked.
"Wow real original, CEloser because my name is CELeste. It's so funny I forget to laugh."
Nancy gets as red as her hair. She matched up to me and shoved me.
Before I hit the ground someone caught me. I looked up and saw sea green eyes and black Raven hair.
"Hey, prissy. Now here is the three biggest losers in Yancy Academy." She walked away snickering.
"Thanks Celeste." Grover squeezed my shoulder.
I nodded and started to walk away when the boy with green eyes put his hand on my arm.
"Thanks for sticking up for Grover, I'm Percy Jackson." He stuck out his hand.
"Celeste O'Brian." I shook his hand. "No need to thank me."
"Are you going on the field trip tomorrow?"
I bite my lip. "Yeah, I think so."
He smiled, "See you there." And he walked back to Grover.
Great, how and I gonna get my mom to sign the permission slip AND pay the 5 for admission.
===========================
The rest of the day passed with Nancy making snark remarks and me ignoring her.The final bell rang and I rushed to the elementary school.
"Hey, Celeste. Here to pick up Eliana?" Mrs.Jenny asked.
"Yes Ma'am. Did she behave today?"
"Like a angle. And her singing voice is as good as yours." She said typing a few things into the computer.
I beamed in pride. Just then Eliana came running into the office.
She wrapped me in a hug. We waved good bye to Mrs. Turner and headed home.
Eliana talked the whole way there about her day, the cats, her friends, and any thing. But once we got to our house she shushed up.
I walked in first. Eliana clinging to my arm. Our house was not that big. A living room and kitchen when you walk in and a little hallway that had me an Eliana's room we shared across. From moms and the bathroom.
I looked around and saw that mom wasn't home, and let out a sigh of relief. I smiled at Eliana and I saw her as reliefed as I was.
Me and Eliana got our homework done and I made some Mac and cheese for dinner.
"Cel, can we watch a show?" Eliana asked with puppy dog eyes.
I looked at the clock. We should be good anougher 3 hours.
"Of course!" I scooped her up into my arms and plopped down on the couch. "So Eli, what will it be." I asked as she pulled the blankets up and leaned on my side.
"Frozen!" She squealed. I laughed and shook my head. It was always Frozen.
About 30 minutes into the movie I heard a car door slam. I sucked in my breath. My mom has been acting weird lately. The last five years have been tough on her, and I could tell she was slowly drinking herself to death. She had also been irritable lately and I worried what was going on with her.
She came stumbling in, and looked at us on the couch. I sat there frozen. She we as drunk, she usually never lets us see her drink, but she was standing in the doorway holding a can of Bud light.
She had this look in her eyes I had never seen before, pure hate and anger.
I had never felt fear this strong, even when our house was broken into last year I never once had a fear because my mom was there and would take care of my and Eli. But this time, I feared because I knew she was gone.
My mom looked at me and my sister and started yelling.
"It's all you fault! If you weren't born he would still be with me!" Then. She started calling us all these profanities that were so foul I started to tear up.
Eliana startrd crying an my mom shut up and looked at us in horror.
I rushed Eliana out of the room and into our bed room. I tucked her in and I sung her to sleep, aware of my drunken mom lurking in the doorway.
When Eli fell asleep I walked out of the room and closed the door.
I turned to my mom and she looked at me with hate. Then out of the blue she slapped me. The anger in her eyes dissapered for a second as she realized what she did, but quickly changed back to hate.she slapped me again and walked back to the kitchen.
I just stood there and knew my mother was gone, this drunken mess took her over.
I walked back into my room and cried myself to sleep.
I never did go on that field trip.
