Chapter 20
.
The boys would be back in Toronto in three weeks, and the Winter Carnival dance was a few days before their first concert date. There were a few television appearances scheduled, then they were playing two more shows before they went onto Montreal, and then to British Columbia. The rest of the tour was in the US, and I was planning on seeing them in Detroit and New York. I had already ordered my tickets for each of the dates; I was going to all three Toronto dates, the Montreal date, and the D-town and NYC dates. It had cost quite a bit, and I had went through quite a lot of stress, getting up early for the sales, but managed to score a total of six tickets.
As for the dance, we had an interesting policy at my old high school where it was being held. Since we lived in such a small area, people who graduated the previous year were allowed to come to everything but prom to fill up the dances. There's nothing worse than an empty dancefloor. It was an attempt for the school to remain a fun place to be for the current students, and we had been tight with the grade below us, so it was going to be fun. I was good friends with quite a few of the people younger than ourselves, but I was especially dying to see our beautiful friend Holly. We always had fun at dances together, as we had the same taste in music, and if she was going to be there, I knew I was in for a good night.
Breagh, Justine, Judith and I worked most weekdays, talking about our plans for the fall. They had all taken off the year like myself to do various things; Judith and her family had travelled quite a bit, to South America, Europe, and Asia. Her large family had all come together to donate their time to various programs in each country that they had visited. Justine had done volunteer work at a centre for the mentally disabled, and she was very good at what she did. Her patient and caring manner left the patrons happy, which is how she always managed to make me feel. Breagh helped her mom run the local animal shelter, taking care of injured and stray pets. They rescued lost and abused animals, nursed them back to help, and them helped them to find homes.
Justine was planning on taking an Arts course in the city, which was no surprise. Some of the works she had produced rivalled Picaso. Judith was going to start in Human Kinetics at St. FX University in Nova Scotia. Holly and Breagh, like myself, had applied abroad. Both girls had also applied to Kings, but Breagh had also applied to St. Andrew's in Scotland, while Holly had applied to Cambridge. I really was hoping we would all be accepted, even though we applied for different courses. Breagh was going for an arts degree, Holly was going for business, and I was going for a Bachelor of Science degree.
Work went by like a breeze, and we always had fun working together. The girls and I laughed almost everyday over the littlest things. The whole issue with Harry was thankfully forgotten with them, so I didn't feel so bad leaving them out of the loop.
Harry and I talked on Skype everyday. He told me about Australia every day they were there, about everything they had done, from holding a koala to going on a boat tour. I watched every interview they did, watching Harry try to think of creative ways as to why we had been together. Whenever an interviewer asked about me though, he gave the standard "we get on quite well" speech until the interviewers gave up entirely.
The Australian fans sounded so cool and laidback, and the whole country sounded amazing. I had always wanted to go to Australia. I always had a thing for their non-poisonous wildlife. Did you know that kangaroos can hop at a pace of 30 miles per hour? Thank you Safaree Samuels for teaching me that!
After Australia, the boys had returned to the UK for some family vacation time. I was glad that Harry would be able to spend time with them, as well as getting some time to relax and unwind.
When I was just coming home from work a few weeks before the first concert, I got a text from him. Luckily, my phone carrier had been able to replace my phone and keep the plan I was using. Harry was always distracting me from work with his texts, so I generally turned off my phone during the day. It was no surprise to find a message from him, and I smiled.
