Together, Lucius and I entered the dining hall, our heads raised high. Only observant individuals eyed us curiously, but we played our parts, and played them well. I noticed mouths at Slytherin table were quickly at work murmuring to their returning prefect with interest. The gross face of Laughalot sneered at me as Lucius replied to the interrogation. I would bet a good part of my soul that the Quidditch captain doubted the lie Lucius used as his excuse. Jealously of my attention to Lucius infected the mud-brown haired student like venom pulsing through one's veins.
Try to do anything and I will kill you myself. I thought as I narrowed my eyes at the student who tried attacking me once.
A little black haired head bobbed up next to me, and I placed my hand upon the scrawny shoulder. "Hello Severus," I smiled, combing my fingers through his growing hair. "How was your week?"
The little boy shrugged his shoulders and sighed, "Nothing extraordinary. When are you going to teach me some... Dark Arts?" Severus whispered the forbidden words of dark magic and a glitter of excitement shone in his eyes.
"But, of course, I say come by my office tomorrow after breakfast, and we can begin your lessons."
"Excellent!"
"Now, go sit with your friends." I finished, and squeezed his shoulder, before watching him take a seat near a few students I regularly tutored.
Advancing to the staff table, I attempted to compose myself as best as I could after such a vigorously spent afternoon. My time with Lucius was the first time in years that I had any sexual contact. I had only ever concerned myself with Gellert, and it was about time that I began interacting with others. The desire to forget Gellert and continue with my life was upon me. I just hoped that the Hogwarts faculty and staff would never suspect me of doing things they would deem inappropriate. Some of the adults scrutinized my flushed countenance like a knowing parent sensing a secret.
"I had a bit of a catastrophe while tutoring a student in potions." I said, finding my place next to McGonagall. As water tempers hot metal, my fellow witches and wizards relaxed and nodded; though, I swore a small sigh escaped Dumbledore. It would be my end if he ever discovered my true identity.
The next day, after breakfast, a knock came at my door. "Enter!" I called, while I unwrapped parchment from a hidden panel in my cedar bookshelf.
"Maera."
"Lucius! What are you doing here?" My surprise shocked him more than I intended it to, but I caught myself, "I'm sorry, I have tutoring all day. What's the matter?"
"Oh," the young man paused and bit the bottom of his lip. "Well, I wanted to ask whether you were free."
I raised an eyebrow, and lazily looked at lustful youth. "Hear me well, Mr. Malfoy. You and I must still carry on our duties as student and staff. I hope you know the severity of this game that we are playing. We will not be able to spend more time together than usual without suspicion falling upon us. So, I ask it of you to keep a reasonable distance and above all, keep quiet."
Lucius' eyes narrowed a bit in disappointment as I finished.
"Come here."
At my command the student walked forward, and I placed my hands upon his shoulders; he put his slender but strong hands against my sides, and pulled me even closer. Then, a small knock came at my door. Lucius' eyes widened, and I threw my hand over his mouth.
"Don't move," I ordered, and tapped his forehead with the end of my wand.
Silently, the young man turned into a pale yellow snake that I rested upon my shoulder. Upon opening the door, I saw Severus' face snap immediately to the snake coiling around my neck.
"Severus!" I smiled, and caught the snake from sneaking down to into my bosoms.
"Is that a real snake? I did not know you had one."
"Transfiguring spell," I laughed, and took the thick snake into my hands.
"May I pet it?" Severus asked with a curious gleam. The bright eyes of the pale snake flashed with anger, and it hissed a warning.
"Better not," I advised, and pulled the snake closer into my grasp. "I say, let me return this creature to its proper form, and then we may be off for your lessons."
The thin boy nodded, and waited by my desk while I slipped behind the wooden door to my bedchamber. Once the click of the iron locking mechanism sounded, I whispered to the slowly transforming snake on my bed. "Now listen carefully, wait for a few minutes before leaving my office, so no one sees you."
The cold gray eyes were now looking at me with a growing fire. Within an instant, Lucius had risen from the four-poster to meet my height and surpass it. With such quick dexterity, the youth pinned me against the opposite wall. Paralyzed in shock, my chest rose and fell swiftly. His anger was none I had ever seen.
"Don't you ever transfigure me, again." Lucius breathed, his clutch on my shoulders tightened and I bit my lip.
"I thought you said you would protect me." My steel voice rasped through a choked up throat.
Upon hearing my words, Lucius's grasp lightened and he sighed, "Go."
Snatching the iron handle, I escaped my room, and found Severus poking around at the glass jars in one of the many bookshelves of the small office.
"Would you mind terribly if we practiced in the forest?" I asked while slipping my cloak over my shoulders. "It's a bit dangerous to be teaching forbidden magic inside the castle."
"The forest it is then." Severus smiled, and followed me out of the castle and into the Dark Forest.
