I finish my homework and get up. I go to the window and see Toby walking in the street.Feeling really guilty, I bite my lip. Poor Toby.
I don't feel guilty, I am guilty.I outside and walk up to him. Toby stares at me.
"Hi" , I say.
"Hi" , Toby replies "What do you want?"
"Look, Toby, I'm sorry about this morning." I say, but he interrupts me.
"Please Spencer. You don't need to pretend you're sorry when you aren't. I know you hate me." Toby sighs and looks down.
"No!Toby, it is true!" I say, getting angry at myself. "I am really sorry."
He laughs and I raise an eyebrow.
"I know we made some...mistakes" I bite my lip, the guilt consuming me. "But can you forgive me?"
"Why should I believe you?" My mouth drops open.
"Really? Are you serious?" I say, incredulous. "Wow. I was wrong when I thought you were different."
I run until the tears come. Why I thought he could be different?I hate him! But...what did I want? To say "sorry" and buy The Guilty Girls Handbook ?
Toby Cavanaugh is dead to me.
